We went to the Yankees game on 9/11. I suppose I was expecting something interesting or memorable—or maybe we were just there because it was an afternoon game on a Sunday. Instead of a flyover from fighter jets, we got a PA system playing “All You Need Is Love” by the Beatles. I have to say, it seemed a little cliché. We did get a flag and a band on the field, but it’s clear that we’ve moved on—which isn’t to say that we’ve forgotten. There’s a difference, and you could sense that in New York.
We started out in the first row of Level 3, but we were in the sun, and cooking. We soon migrated to Level 4 in the shade, and eventually to the top row of the stadium where a stiff cool breeze was whipping through the fence.
Overall, I have to say I was super disappointed with Yankee Stadium itself. A concrete bunker designed, apparently, with the sole intention of keeping the city out. Views of the Bronx? Nonexistent. History of the greatest team in history? Nonexistent. Twelve dollar beer? Nonexistent.
Just kidding. Of course they’ve got twelve dollar beers.
It sounds like I’m complaining, but really, we had a fantastic day. We all love a day at the ballpark.
Bottom of the ninth, three men on, two outs, what do you do? Take some family selfies.
And with that, we said goodbye to New York. For us, it lived up to the hype. Yet after a few weeks, we were eager to get out and slow the pace again.

You know, if you drive north into New York State, the fall colors are world famous. Rhinebeck, near where I grew up, is supposedly one of the better places for leaves.
For a brief second I was trying to figure out the windshield wiper on the last photo.
Ummm, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that’s not a windshield wiper, that’s a bridge support beam. 🙂
There is a Museum within Yankee Stadium with years of historical paraphernalia.
Ahhh, so there is. We walked all over that place and somehow managed to miss it. Bummer.
If you’re still in the northeast, head to Fenway Park for a real ball game. The Boston skyline is beautiful, and Big Papi won’t disappoint you!
