West Side

We moved from Utila over to West End, Roatan. It’s only about 20 miles, but somehow this little jump always ends up as a wet sloppy mess. But once tucked in between the reef and the island it’s a calm welcoming bay. The kind of place we’re happy to hang out at for a couple of weeks without looking at the weather or the charts to see what’s next.

We spent the afternoon diving down fifteen feet to sit around the mooring (West End is trying to protect the sea grass, so no anchoring) and pretend to drink tea. Then we saved our seashell teacups for later.

Ouest and Lowe set off on an adventure—paddleboarding while towing the dinghy behind them. Apparently those approaching clouds didn’t bother them.

It wasn’t five minutes before the cool wind of the rainstorm started to blow and they had to call for a sea rescue.

Mornings generally look like this. That grass is 12-15 feet down.

The guy who owns the submarine tour company hauled this sailboat into this bay, glassed it up tight, and built a platform to jump off of. It used to have a mast sticking out at 30 degrees that you could swing like a madman on, but I think too many kids were slamming back into the hull. That part had to come down I guess, but my kids were plenty happy just jumping.

The dress-up clothes get a lot of use on our boat.

    1. Hi Bruce Ellen, that’s a long time you’ve been with us. So many changes, so many good times and memories. Merry Christmas to you and yours as well.

    1. Thank you, Mrs. Mauer. Pat and I joke that my old boyfriend (8th grade!) follows our family adventures. It makes us feel still connected to Minnesota. So thank you for that. Hope your beautiful family has a very Merry Christmas!
