We were only in Valladolid for a few hours. We arrived, went for a swim in Cenote Zaci, put on some dry clothes and went for a long walk around town, grabbing dinner and desert before collapsing after a long day well spent.
Really enjoyed the color of Valladolid even on an overcast day.
We never fail to pick up a local mutt on our walks. There’s always one who can’t resist Ali’s sweet talk.
Lowe stepped in a gutter and scratched his ankle. The dog walked over and put his paw directly on top of the scratch like he knew to apply pressure to the wound. Street dogs are street dogs, though, and it wasn’t long before he reached the end of his territory, turned, and trotted off again to find his next set of friends.
There were splashes of color everywhere.
I like how this tree seems to be bending down to let Ouest pick a flower.
Lining up for marquesitas. Not our favorite, but very popular with everyone else.

Wow. I’ll get there one day.
Your kids are getting quite an education.
Indeed. Some days are better than others. 😉
I’ve visited this town many times, constantly being drawn back to it for reasons I’ve never been able to describe. My wife and I have sat in the very chairs where Ouest and Lowe sat. Your pictures did a wonderful job of capturing the simple beauty of Valladolid.
Thanks, Alan. Smallish, vibrant, friendly town.
Your eye for beauty always astounds me. This is one of your best. Thank you!
My goodness, those are the cleanest streets I’ve ever seen. It almost looks like the Disneyland cleaning crew is on duty 24/7 there.
It was clean, and usually we always see someone sweeping but didn’t in this town. Weird.
Gorgeous!
We spent a few days in Valladolid several years ago. What a lovely colonial city! We thoroughly enjoyed walking everywhere, tasting Yucatecan specialities, and visiting the Cenote Zaci. Somehow we missed the marquesitas, though. I have a feeling we would like them. Still keeping our eyes open; I think because we are typically at home after dark, we miss out on some of the simple pleasures of Yucatecan cities. So much fun for Ouest and Lowe!
The marquesita lines start up around 4 in the afternoon, like a pre-dinner sweet. We always thought it was weird to see the donut sellers in the afternoons, not in the mornings. Mexicans like that afternoon sugar high, Ouest and Lowe fit right in. 🙂
Nature and man should be friends. Ouest and the tree are. Pat, you are a wonderful observer.
the giving tree!! an amazing pic. agreed, one of your best, though your best go on and on.
One of my absolute favorite things about Mexico (besides the food and how cheap everything is, lol.) is how colorful it is everywhere. Not just the the color of buildings, but the murals on them and splashes of color inside everywhere. I love it, and never get tired of it.
For us as well (all your favorite things about Mexico). All of Central America really. We are excited about the upcoming months.
Just love your love for Mexico and its people. Carry on! 🙂
