Ten-Year Anniversary Party

Well we couldn’t very well have an anniversary party without a cake could we?

It was kind of funny that the kids had no idea what we were having a party for. They’ve no concept of internet, blogs, or anything like that. They know the computer has pictures and videos of them on it, but that’s about it really. So when we told them the party was for Bumfuzzle they immediately thought of the boat and then turned around and sang Happy Birthday to Papa.

  1. I hope you don’t take this the wrong way Ali:-) But, I’ve been without carbohydrates so much lately that even this cake looks good:-) (needs chocolate frosting though)

In all fairness, I haven’t tasted any of your cake yet… I’m just going on “looks” here… pictures are very cool guys!!!!!

  2. Happy anniversary, guys! I love that you had cake to celebrate. We just passed our five year “freedom” milestone and like you…returning to our previous life just isn’t an option. I see a cake on the menu soon. 🙂

  3. Glad that you let us celebrate with you your 10 years of decadence. Been following you guys for about a couple years. I went all the way back when I started so I have the 10 year perspective and yes it has been a good ride. Keep it up and look forward to seeing you back out their sailing to some remote locations as the kids get older. You probably remember me calling Ouest a little fish and Lowe ice cube. Great to see Ouest enjoying school so much and now wanting to write. Hey she will be able to take over the blog at some point. Ali you are a great mom to the kidos and Pat being able to give your family this adventure is so cool! To another 10 years with the bums!

  4. Woot 10 years!!! That pic of the two of you is so sweet. And the solo shot of Ali is awesome too. Let’s make cake when we meet up in Mazatlan, please?

  5. Congratulations guys, Happy Anniversary.
Wow! What will the next ten bring.
Look forward to crossing wakes eventually.
    Happy Sails

  6. Congratulations on your big 10! We have been reflecting on all you have done and realized that we also have been able to live a somewhat unusual life style. We never completed our dream to “sail” across the Pacific but we did do some significant sailing off the coast of California. We did a lot of land cruising in old cars and unusual vehicles. We went to unusual places. We have been to many exotic places that we never expected to go. We have been on a budget and still enjoyed our trips. Although we have never given up our land base we have still been to many places that others would not venture.
We admire what you are doing. I am so glad that you decided to place Ouest in a Mexican preschool. She will pick up language so quickly there. I love following your adventures day by day and watching my
virtual grandchildren as they grow up. Hopefully, we will be around for another 10 years to see what has happened to your family. We expect to follow your progress. We celebrated your big 10 by going to Flagstaff to the Route 66 show. There were about 450 cars there. Too many to see. Ate lunch at San Felipes Cantina, Fish Tacos, !!!!
Continued best wishes as you venture on! Love all your pictures.

  7. Congratulations on acheiving the 10 year mark on your life style Ali, Pat & Kids.
Cake is an excellent way to celebrate such an event for everyone that is young of heart.
May you contunue to sail thru your life adventures and journey of self discovery and remain able to live your life to the beat of the drum you both are choosing and that it always be with your children along side.

  8. Hi guys
I found your blog about 3 years ago, read it from the start up to the present (well, most of it). Love your photos and the way you write so honestly and say what you think and not what you think people want to hear. We too are planning to sail off, we’ve bought a lovely old solid Nicholson 31, done the training and are now trying to sell our house to downsize, rent it out and create and income so we can sail off for as long as we like. How do you two manage for money? I know you live cheaply, but you have to have some kind of income. Whilst we dearly love England we can’t wait to be somewhere warmer in the winter! Keep enjoying life, who want’s ‘he worked jolly hard at a dull job all his life’ on his gravestone?! x

  9. Congrats, Bums! Never doubted that you’d make 10 years; heck 20 is just around the corner. Who knows what changes will occur; that’s the adventure. I remember finding your blog when I was setting one up for my sister and her husband as they planned a sail from CT to FL and the islands. I was intrigued then and still love following your wonderful family. I remember designing math quizzes around your blog and often used reading the blog as a “reward” for my students as they finished quizzes or classwork. I wonder how many of them still follow you? Perhaps some were inspired to set sail. The website was always up on the white board (now would be a smart board) in my classroom. Mike and I continue to enjoy retirement and our own adventures–modest by your standards. However, how wonderful that many of us can design our futures to “explore” in the ways that we want. Sail on Bums; and we’ll be following!!

  10. Been following you for eight years. Thanks a million for putting world problems into perspective. Wishing you and family the best in the future.
