I don’t have much to say about the past few days. We’ve done very little other than just enjoy the string of bays along the coast of St. John. There are very few boats compared to normal times, thanks to COVID, and those that are around are charters that congregate very tightly in front of two of the most popular beaches (because they have beach bars). That leaves the rest of them pretty wide open. We have our favorite beaches, which are always empty despite being just “around the corner” from the busy ones. We actually skipped the USVIs the last time we sailed this way because after the madness of the BVIs we didn’t think we could stomach the USVIs. All in all, we’re enjoying St. John much much more than we expected to.

Hi! We have a small cottage in Coral Bay St John. Glad you enjoying this beautiful island! Safe travels! Pam
Hiya! Our map describes Coral Bay as a place for the rich and famous. Ooh la la. 🙂
The water looks so beautiful. I need to see water like that.
It is really good, especially with the temps/humidity starting to rise. Need the afternoon swims for sure!
It’s a tough life but I guess someone has to do it. (better than being stuck in the house at home)
Yes, work hard, play hard. We got a lot of that going on. Hang in there!
Beautiful pictures.
Thank you.
You are in the waters of my beloved St. John. I believe that is Gibney beach. The building (house) on the left of the beach is was once owned by Oppenheimer (yes, THAT Oppenheimer) and the property to the right is owned by the Gibney family. There used to be a palm tree that hung out over the water with a tire swing attached but the storms of 2017 took it out. Hope you enjoy St. John and all it’s history. Great hiking trails, sugar mill ruins and petroglyphs. Have fun Bumfuzzles!
Neat! Oh they would have loved that swing!
Yes, really (REALLY) enjoying St. John. Great end of the season for us, after all that was happening.
A hike this afternoon with friends, and have the sugar mill and petroglyphs to look forward too soon. The temps/humidity is starting to show up, but we are going to enjoy for as long as there are no storms on the horizon.
And as for snorkeling, try Hurricane Hole and Waterlemon Cay. Just ask anyone from the island, they’ll help you. I won’t get back till next May so I’m enjoying your pics and post. Have a fun time and remember…you’re on Island time.
Ballast stones?
Spent our honeymoon, nearly 20 years ago, on St. John. It’s primarily National Park. Only a few in holdings.
Yes, seems like a good place to relax and enjoy the water.
Epic! If nothing more than for the sheer beauty of St John’s! Goodonyas!
You guys should be on the payroll for Gand Banks yachts. There is no better display of boat life can be than your blog.
Yes! Can you help set that up for us? 😉
(and thank you.)
Francis bay, Maho bay and Cinnamon bay are special. There is a point with a cliff at Francis bay. I think its called Marys point. When the breeze is right, usually at night you can hear screams. legend is it is where sugar slaves jumped to their death? Just a very spiritual and beautiful spot to anchor. I think Maho and Cinnamon bay got destroyed by the hurricane? My family had a cal 28 sloop that we kept at Culebra. Back in the day. We basically lived at Francis bay. Be careful of the reef behind Francis bay. I think its called Johnsons reef. I have been reading of your adventures for years. I am a native of south Minneapolis. I would rather be sailing the Virgins. Easy sailing!
Hi Eric, Nice. Yes, we are back at Francis and heading over to Cinnamon this afternoon. There is one mooring out front of Mary’s Points that we are hoping to grab Saturday after the winds die down. Then continuing around the island. But Francis – yes enjoying this place.
