We got over to South Bimini okay, but got pinned down here for a while with weather. Wind, wind, wind.
This bay was well protected, shallow, and quiet. We hung out here quite a bit for the few days we were on the island.
The kids enjoyed low tide. Plenty to do with active imaginations. Beach restaurant? Sure. Live conch, check. Shell plates, check. Shell spoons, check. Sand pies, check.
There is nothing on the South Island except a place to buy booze, and a takeaway shop that smells from a hundred yards away like it’s been frying food up in the same oil for ten years. It probably tastes great, but we couldn’t bring ourselves to even peek in.
I guess I shouldn’t say there is nothing on the island—there is a barber.
The ferry ride to North Bimini covers all of about 100 yards, maybe less, and there isn’t a heck of a lot to do over there, either. We had some dinner, and realized we were happier back on our quiet little island.

The kids don’t seem to mind being pinned down there. Beautiful pictures, as always.
They don’t say much, but I know they like to be out anchored so they can jump off the boat whenever they want.
Wow, great pictures (as always). I am a little late but want to wish you all a Happy New Year. I hope your travels are all you are hoping for. Stay healthy.
Thanks, Dave. Happy 2018 to you as well.
I guess it’s part of travel, being pinned down. Brought back memories of being caught in a hostel in Tasmania in 3 days of torrential rain.
Yes, it is. Easier for adults, hard for kids like ours. Thankfully they are somewhat easily entertained. Rain is the worst.
I just love to see the great life those kids lead. Lots of love and adventure!
Thanks, Lynn.
Did you anchor out? Or marina on South Bimini?
Marina. We were stuck because of weather. No good anchoring in Bimini for 40+ knot winds.
