Our little girl is three. I’m feeling the time accelerator now more than ever before. I like this age a lot as it is so much fun to talk and joke with her—to have discussions about her thoughts instead of putting words in her mouth. I don’t know, she’s great, and there isn’t a lot that needs to be said aside from that.
We had a Bumfuzzle birthday, meaning lots of balloons, cupcakes, singing, and laughing. In the morning we (as in I) blew up a hundred balloons while the girls baked cupcakes. We then piled all the balloons into Lowe’s little bedroom and sent them both in. They had a blast, and we only had one or two injury time-outs.
Our kids don’t get sweets. We’re pricks like that. Occasional ice cream, but never any candy or chocolate. We’ve always just figured that they can have it when they grow up a little bit, but as long as they are tiny and still okay with us simply saying, “No,” then why bother getting started on it. Anyway, the point is that when they get cupcakes it is a cause for some excitement.
But the kids are funny—and Ali and I always see this when they do get something sweet—because you throw a cupcake in front of them and they dive in, but within two or three bites they are done. Lowe for some strange reason didn’t want to touch his at first so he just dipped his head down on the table and ate it without his hands. By ate it, I mean he got a little bit of frosting on his lips. I don’t think he even took a bite before he had moved on. Ouest was a little more into it. She licked the cupcake clean of frosting, ate half a dozen cherries, maybe a bit or two of cupcake and then announced, “Me no more hungry.” Of course this left Ali and I with sixteen more cupcakes that we had to find a use for.
In the afternoon we wandered into town with some friends who have a little girl just six months younger than Ouest. It took them a while, but by the time the food got to the table the kids were gone. We don’t get to spend much time with kids the same age as Ouest, so it was a lot of fun for her.
Anyway, we had a great day all around. Happy birthday Ouest. Three is going to be a lot of fun.
