Returning the rental car.
“The total is $46 then,” he tells me matter of factly.
“Wait, how much? It’s only supposed to be $36.”
“Yes, but you reserved a full-size car.”
“I know, but you only gave me a compact. You can’t charge me for a full-size and give me a compact.”
“Let me call my manager.” Five minutes of discussion ensues. “Mmmm, we can not give you a discount, but we will give you a full-size car with your next reservation.”
“Uh-yeah. No. I’m not paying for a full-size. Let me talk to the manager.”
Manager: “You reserved a full-size! Now you want a discount!”
“It’s not a discount, it’s the price of a compact, which is what you gave me.”
“But you reserved a full-size! You signed the papers agreeing to pay $46!” he yelled angrily.
This ridiculous argument went on and on until I noticed on their copy of the rental agreement that the price appeared to have been altered. As in someone had penned in a 4 over the 3 on the price of the rental. I ran back out to the car, dug in the glove box, found my copy of the original which clearly showed a 3, not a 4, and suddenly the argument came to a screeching halt. Oops, somebody forgot about that little piece of evidence. Thank you once again National Car Rental.
