Sea and Sand in Utila

Everyone is happy when the floating mat can be thrown out in the water. I was really hesitant to buy this thing a couple years ago, but it’s turned out to be worth hauling around with us.

He didn’t really chase Lowe up that tree.

Hanging out on the beach in Utila as the sun goes down. There really isn’t anything else to do in Utila other than play in the water and the sand, which is just fine with us.

You can see the mountains around La Ceiba, Honduras in this picture. Mainland is just 18 miles away from the island. These islands were a British colony for just a few years in the 1850s, but I was talking to this nice old lady who is doing our laundry for us and she corrected me when I said something in Spanish—she said to me, in perfect English of course, “We’re British, they are Spanish (pointing at the mountains on the mainland).” I thought that was kind of interesting. She has a lovely home right on the water where she could see the mountains, and watch the boats come and go in the bay all day long. One very happy and content 80 year-old who is still hoping for a visit from the Queen.

Gringo lady buys a house on Utila, takes in every stray on the island, and husband then shows up on the beach telling everyone they really need a puppy. Sorry, not us, but we’re happy to hold them for a while.

As a dad it’s not easy to cede control to your son, but when you see the joy and sense of pride he gets from doing a “dad job” then it’s worth the passing of the reins.

  1. Good morning Pat! Last post I can find is Nov. 30. Miss your updates. Pray all is well. Be Safe! Tommy

    1. Thanks, Tommy. All is good – we usually post a week or so behind real time. We had family visit us so it was a bit more this time. Family first, then computer catch up later.

  2. Wow, you’re looking salty, Pat! Your picture is starting to remind me of the salts who have been in PV for decades! 🙂

  3. Bumfuzzles: no info on Christmas season 2019 or New Year’s 2020 — unusual. Hope all is well. May God bless you and your families

    1. As you know it is a very busy time of year for everyone. Now throw in crossing oceans, working, home-schooling, editing photos, playing cards, snorkeling, watching the sunset, watching the sunrise, enjoying the now. We post when we want, not by “we need to update”.

And on another note, your comment on the previous post…seriously. I’m sure you’ve rushed around to get all things done, said bye to friends, cleared out of a country, had an over night passage with your family, cleaned your home, cleared into a new country, and were a tad tired from it all. I’m sure you have…
