We left Rockaway Beach under a cloudy sky for the ride back to Portland. Stopped off in Garibaldi, just down the road, and managed to sneak some nickels onto the train tracks before the tourists rumbled by.
Kelley Point Park in Portland is a fun “in the city” spot to get our feet in some sand. Not much for swimming, but what can you expect from a river running through an industrial park?
Ouest wanted to make her own guitar. I think this was her Crazy Train solo.
And before we knew it we were halfway across the country in MN. Grandma and Grandpa recently moved to a house on a lake, which works out pretty well for our family.
Wrestling with Aunt Toni.
Until there was only one man left standing. I realized that I can hardly keep my head above water with the kids hanging all over me in this fresh water. Playing our shark game is much easier in the salt.

It’s so stressful watching people swim in lakes!! Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to do it, but being a Florida girl, it’s just terrifying watching other people do it! We have to keep our kids away from the lake and river shores around here because of alligators!
Seems like you had a wonderful “off season” with family and friends. Have a good trip back to the boat. Getting dark earlier here in CT, some trees losing a bit of their summer green, and swans have begun to appear when lake is quiet in am and pm. All signs that summer is going to give way to fall. All Good. Well be out before it gets really cold! Take care!!
Just a short visit, or exploring Florida? Are the kids just anxious to get back on the boat? Like you said, the Atlantic is waking up. Curious what your plans are. Lane left us with a few showers and hardly any wind. But then, we have these three huge volcanoes that protect us well. 🙂
I adore Ouest’s creativity with the guitar! You see it so often in homeschooled kids with little access to screen time and loads of unstructured play time.
Even though it’s heating up, hopefully the Atlantic will continue to bless us all with an easier season. The folks in the Caribbean still need some more time to continue their recovery after last year. We’re holed up in the mooring field at Beaufort till the storms are done and it’s an amazing place for kids. The town is a neat historic town with museums, a great park and playground and lots of marshes to explore by kayak. Oh and ice cream shops within walking distance…It would be worth your time if you happen to make it up this way.

I just realized I forgot to say that we’re in Beaufort, SC since there’s also one in NC.
NC responding. I swim in lakes and rivers all the time. No gators, just helbenders aka big old salamanders in cold 64F H20.
One of the perks of the mountains. No gators, no cottonmouths. Oh, we have timber rattlers and copperheads, but they stay well away.
Is that a Miller High Life I spy there?? Looks like a crowd I could party with…..
As usual, we head into your area and you head out. Maybe we will see you in Florida! Maybe the entire family can stay this time.
