It’s been a pretty quiet few days around here. We usually get out and do something in the morning, then hang around the bus in the afternoon before playing on the beach and swimming before dinnertime. The beach around here was slammed by a couple of hurricanes this summer, and it is amazing to see how it was transformed. A couple of restaurants just down the beach from us used to have extensive beach/lounging areas, but now have nothing but a cliff right out their back doors. By mid-tide we can’t even walk north along the beach because there isn’t one. South still stretches for miles, but even that way there are businesses rebuilding and shoring up walls. Watching them come in and pour tons of concrete to try and stop the ocean seems so futile.
Not sure what happened to the skate park—all the ramps are gone. So no big airs for the kids this time, though it was good to see the nice smooth riding surface remains. Still has to be one of the best skate park locations anywhere.
Built a couple of shelves inside a cabinet to house all the kids’ paper/crayons/craft supplies. Having all of this stuff easily accessible to them should simplify our lives greatly. Not a day goes by that all of that stuff isn’t strewn about the house. Right now Ouest is really into writing. She goes through dozens of pieces of paper a day, writing our names, and words like run, sun, fun, cat, dog. She quickly scribbles a picture on them and presents them to us as mail. At the end of every day I reach into my pockets and pull out folded up papers, shells, and rocks that I’ve been given. I have to keep them at least until the kids’ go to bed, because even the most inconsequential looking scrap can be asked for hours later. Usually—but not always—they are forgotten by the next morning.
Won’t be long now and I can hand over oil change duties.

I don’t know how you get all your stuff in that camper! You guys are amazing! Loved the picture of the pangas. I am getting addicted to your blog! Suzie
Well, the inner tube doesn’t come with. 🙂
….”pour tons of concrete to try and stop the ocean seems so futile.”
Not seems futile. It IS futile, but we humans keep trying anyways.
You’re right, it is futile. And I’ll try and take a picture of that wall just to show you how ridiculously futile it really is. The thing looks terrible.
I’m always amazed at the serendipitous things you shoot with your camera, Pat. That sushi place? You know it says “Fish Sushi” in Japanese, eh? hilarious. There should be another one next to it like “Yasai sushi” (veg. sushi). Kids are sure growing fast!
Fish Sushi. I did not know that. 🙂 Actually, I liked that one for the word Experiences above the guy’s head.
