Quiet Rio Days

It’s been a pretty quiet couple of weeks. We’re finishing up small projects as we wait for hurricane season to draw to a close. Heading out soon, but remembering that there also isn’t any big rush. Just take it easy, enjoy life and friends, and head off when we’re ready.

The owner of the marina had us all out to his farm place along a river. Fun little getaway for all of us, as there are only so many new things to do around the marina these days.

Cleaning out the back locker. Crazy how much space is under here. There’s even two spare props tucked under there still.

Negrita the cat was shy when we first came here. She liked to play, but only in her little grassy area. Then she started venturing down the dock to find us, and now she’s a nightly fixture onboard as she shows up ready for dinner.

There are always long lists of projects, big and small, to get done before we set off for the season.

Chatting about life as they wait for friends to show up.

Once a year the bottom rail gets a cleaning and a very light sanding before we oil it up. There’s only so much varnish that we are interested in trying to maintain.

The Dispensia Familiar is the only grocery store in town (the far nicer La Torre is slated to open next month, of course, right after we leave). I swear there is always a lady inside of the refrigerator. Total contents of the refrigeration in this store are: cream cheese, sliced American cheese, yogurt drinks, hot dogs that even I wouldn’t touch, and ham slices that don’t appear to be actual ham at all. Grocery shopping here in Fronteras has become something we aren’t at all excited to do.

We were sitting at a restaurant and asked the kids to go down on the dock and take some sunset pictures. This is what they came back with.

  1. I have been enjoying your photo essays since your first voyage with your ” cat” years ago. In this “Quiet Days in Rio”
I especially like the three photos taken at night time…….more night time photos, please! They are beautiful and a
bit evocative of the quiet of the night in different place. And, my other favorite is the three “contemplating”…..the two young girls and
the parrot……all looking at something, but what? Happy and safe travels to you all, and thanks for sharing your
life and family with all of us! Angelica

    1. Thanks, Agnes. Yes I too like the nighttime images. We will get on it to take more of those. I think the girls and parrot were looking at me as we were getting the parrot to talk to us. Hola!

  2. Sweet.

We are currently in Connecticut about to go south in our new to us Maine Cat 41. Destination – the Bahamas. We lost our first catamaran when Dorian hit but we were lucky enough to find a nice slightly used, well maintained one in Connecticut. Off on yet another adventure. Still love keeping up with you guys.

    1. So sorry to hear about Dorian but I’m enjoying following your trip on FB on your new cat. You guys always look like a fun time, even in some of that weather. Until we meet up again, friend!
