Ocean City. Do you know how many towns are named Ocean City? I don’t either, but I’ll bet it’s a bunch. We’re in the one in Jersey, for a bit.
Our friend, Charlotte, whipped these drapes up for us right before we left. Makes leaving the back of the truck full of stuff a lot easier. A person can still see in, but at least it’s not all jumping out at you.
We weren’t in Ocean City very long before Ali got crabs. I know. I told her, if you hang out around the boardwalk this is what happens.
Hermit crabs. Yeah. Ali spent at least twelve hours on the internet the next couple of days researching how to care for them. The kids and I promptly broke all the rules. Our crabs were made for racing. And exploring.
Meet Hermie, and Crabby.
This isn’t really related, but the other day Lowe walked up to me and completely straight-faced asked, “Papa, can you do this?” He then stood on one foot, lifted his other up in the air and kicked himself repeatedly on the top of the head with it.
No, son. No, I can’t.
It’s off season here, beginning just a couple of weeks back, and the price of rentals dropped by at least two-thirds. We got this massive apartment, built in 1917, a block from the beach, for cheap. We didn’t think much of it when the listing said 4-bedrooms, and then we got here and saw this hallway. We don’t have enough racetrack.
With all of this room, we promptly spread out.
Big Corvette show on the boardwalk. I’m not a Corvette guy myself, but man, go back to the 50s and they are a thing of beauty.
Ocean City is a dry town. I know, right? Weird. And, since it’s dry, they spend all day flying beer advertisements over the beach.

I noticed that Ouest and Lowe made a little mistake on their alphabet list..?, very well done though with the upper and lower case letters! Also I am curious about the hermit crabs, do they require a bowl of saltwater to be happy?
Are those green, blue and red plastic things magnetic? I’ve heard of them but never seen them in action. Seems like the perfect toy for those with limited space.
Magna-Tiles. Greatest toy ever. About the only toy that has stuck with us for years, and gets daily use still. Expensive, but worth every penny.
Yeah, they truly are the greatest! I noticed those right off the bat — one of our grandkids’ absolute favorite toys and something they play with over the years, just getting more and more “sophisticated” in what they build! Only problem is we find we keep wanting to buy more so they can build bigger things. The “Picasso” tiles are said to play nice with the Magna-Tiles, and for MUCH less money, so we may add a set of those next.
We started out with 100 piece set, and added a 50. That’s about the max we can carry around with us. If we had a house it’d be hard not to buy 500 of them (except for the cost).
Yeah, we started with just two of the small (32 piece) sets, and especially now with *two* kids, we absolutely need more. (We did add some really LONG pieces and a couple of flatbed car bases which have been fun, but now it’s just more regular pieces we need.) I think I see a 100-piece set in our Christmas plans. It’s true, though, if it weren’t for the cost I can see them just taking over the house! 😉
I’ve followed you around the world….now your in the town where I spent 35 of my 47 summers. Weird.
You’re a pizza guy. Would love your take on Manco and Manco…my #1 in the world.
I’ve only had the cheese slices so far, and sadly, found them greasy and lacking in flavor. Is there a particular topping I must try in which they’ll redeem themselves? I even went so far as to start skipping them in favor of 3 Brothers.
If the plain doesn’t do it for you, I don’t think a topping is going to put you over the edge. Strange….because it’s very popular. (3 locations in 2 miles)
How’s the water there? Hurricane warm?
Warm enough that you don’t have to squeal like a little girl, but not warm enough that you want to spend a lot of time in there, either.
As long as it is not a Sat/Sun take the roads, bridges and streets along the ocean all the way south to Cape May – a real collection of beach towns! And climbing the lighthouse in Cape May Point State Park will give you some amazing photos!
Love the clothes line!
Since when did Ocean City become a dry town? When we sailed there last year we sat at Hooter’s on the boardwalk and people watched over a couple of beers. We sat until our feet stopped hurting from walking the entire boardwalk.

Hooters? You clearly were not in Ocean City, New Jersey. Dry since 1879. And still Hooter free as well.
Oooh! We were in Ocean City, MD. They look so similar from the pictures. I hope we didn’t go to the wrong one 🙂

Magna Tiles, my son has something similar, and they cost a fortune. He loves them, I will have to look for the ones you have on the net. Dry cities, are you serious? They still have those? I thought they all went out in the 30’s
The south is full of them, but I definitely didn’t expect one up here. This town has gone all in on “family friendly.” And overall, it works pretty well.
Ocean city NJ wasn’t that in a Beach Boy song in the 60’s. Cool place..lots of jersey shore cities like that..
I think that was ‘Surf City’ another NJ shore town.
Pretty cool getting to ride the bug ride right behind Billy Joel
In 59′ I got a ride in a 57′ Vette and when he opened it up… well I still remember the feeling of being pushed back in the bucket seat! Only thing like it was a PSA takeoff from LAX in the early 60’s when fuel was cheep, like 19 cents a gallon…
I am Paul Hardys mom. I think you may be visiting them soon. I intend to check out the Magna Ttiles for young grands. I am very envious of your life style and wish one of my brood could have the opportunity to follow your lead. Good travel. SBG. (sweet beautiful grandmother)
Looks like you guys are still living the good life! We are headed to Sayulita soon. Sure will miss you all! cSea keeps asking if she’s going to see Oeste and Low and Soxxi!
If you liked Ocean City NJ your gonna LOVE Ocean City Md. Come visit us. Best blue crabs around. And as far as pizza ya gotta go Miones. Awesome. And for the crabs go to On The Bay Seafood . Right on coastal hwy and 43rd Street. Good food , kid friendly and it’s a crab joint.
