We had crazy rain overnight and even went so far as to leave the bus for a couple of hours early in the morning to hide out in the office and watch the Weather Channel. Fortunately the tiny hail didn’t turn into the baseballs they saw just to our west.
Today was one of those days that everything just sort of falls into place. We started the morning off at the Vicksburg National Battlefield Park. A big looping drive with some 1300 monuments scattered about the Civil War battlefields.
We left there and soon spotted a tiny roadside restaurant called the Tomato Stand. Cool little place with tons of fresh homemade and homegrown food. We grabbed a couple of BLTs and lemonade then hit the road again.
A while later we were coasting through some small town when we spotted a carnival going on. Couldn’t very well pass that up, so we pulled in, got our tickets, and hit the rides. Ouest has always wanted to go on a ferris wheel and I figured that a ferris wheel that folds down into a trailer an RV can tow was a good choice for getting that off her bucket list.
Then there was the giant slide which the operator laughingly explained had been freshly wiped down with Armor All. Lowe wanted to go, but was too little to do it himself (not according to the carny), so Ali took him. I’ll let the series of photos do the talking from here on out. A big thank-you to Ali for allowing me to post these—I laugh every time I look at them.
Ouest has also been bugging us about trying a caramel apple ever since Mexico. So today we got one, cut off a big hunk for Lowe, walked over to a nearby field with a playground, and handed it over to her. She took one bite then took off for the playground. Lowe put a piece in his mouth, then spit it out, “Yuk.” Our kids can be so weird sometimes.
You know what is going to be the end of carnivals like this? Cell phones. The carneys that are usually barking at you the whole time in order to get you to spend forty bucks in an attempt to win a two dollar stuffed animal now sit around staring at their phones waiting for you to come up to them and ask to play. Never thought I’d miss the sound of their voices, and well, I didn’t.
After the carnival we took off again and in no time had found the Natchez State Park to bunk up in for the night. All in all a pretty awesome day.

The kids really seem to enjoy the front bumper when the battery compartment(s) is/are open.
Oooohh Lurker, you really got us there didn’t you? Batteries are in the middle compartment, the one I was working on in the first pictures, and that you might notice the lock on in the others. Thanks for chiming in exactly three minutes after we posted this.
Mannn ….lurker has his problems..
The colors are so fantastic…..wonderful photo’s.
great photos 🙂 your van looks so comfy – and now I have an urge to find myself a Very Big Slide!
Very nice pictures. I know you have probably said it many times before, but what type camera do you use?
Canon Rebel t3i camera, Canon 15mm fisheye lens, Canon 50mm lens, Tamron 18-270mm lens.
At first I was sad when you sold Bumfuzzle (the boat), I thought I might miss the traveling posts of yours. Uh, wrong. I am LOVING your blog lately! You guys are in your element, it shows in all of your photos (the grins give it away), and the excitement in your writing-not to mention there is quite a bit of traveling going on lately 🙂
I keep saying someday, when we are done with sailing, I want a goat and a tiny chicken coop. Do you think I could put them on a trailer behind a bus? Because now I really want to do a road trip too.
Damn you guys….stop being so inspiring!!!

Thanks Deborah. I think we are at our best when we are on the move. That may well change at some point, but it works right now. Problem with always being on the move is deciding where to move to next.
And yes, definitely could do chickens. Goat might have to wait though.
Chickens in the RV? Buy your nose plugs! We had chicks on the boat for a couple of months and peeeeee-ewwwww!
The slide photos just cracked me up! Ali….you are a good sport.
What a beautiful gorgeous family you all are,
having a great time and totally in love with
each other. Best wishes and love from Australia.

Dude, so awesome in so many different ways…!!
Tell Ali thanks for letting you post those slide photos, they were great!! I don’t know what you did to have her give her blessing to post them, but whatever it was – You guys are a great couple! Keep laughing!
The picture with the lady in pink talking to the carny…what a look you captured on the little one!
Ooooo…..Ooooo… green grass, green trees! No snow!
So much more to do when traveling in a motorhome! Palmetto Island State Park in Louisiana has a great playground….and a water play park. Be sure to eat a Po Boy while you are in that area! Delish
