Musket Cove

Days pass pretty easily here in Musket Cove. Perfect weather, some decent snorkeling, and a welcoming resort with the best pizza we’ve had in a long time. There’s even a nice little grocery store.

Local boats use this pass at high tide, but at low tide it clears up for a nice walk and is fun to poke around to see what you can find.

Me and Lowe were out on the flats as the tide came in, goofing around building castles that would get enveloped by the water. This caused a good bit of alarm to a nearby cruiser who came out to warn us about a resident shark. “Big one. Eight footer.” I asked what kind, thinking that for him to be alarmed it must be something serious.

“Whitetip.”

Whitetip reef sharks grow to about five feet, not eight, and I don’t think there is a historical record of anyone being attacked by one. Dude has been watching too much shark week television.

Couple miles out from the anchorage is a fun reef to freedive. Some pretty decent coral around, and lots of cool little canyons to dive through, all in a max of maybe fifty feet.

One morning we decided to get out and stretch our legs a bit with a hike up Mount Silo. It was steamy hot, so we figured we’d get an early start. We failed at that. Nine a.m. is not nearly early enough.

First stop was the helipad. Pretty nice view already, and a good sweat.

Oh geez, a help number.

This is as far as we made it. Sweat coming out of our pores at a completely unsustainable rate. We were maybe 1/3 of the way to the top of the hill.

Better to sit in the shade on the beach. At least we didn’t have to use the emergency number.

  1. Great finally seeing you guys back on your boat and out in some beautiful waters! I usually read on your adventures here and there and do a binge reading like I’m watching an old tv series. I started yall’s Bumfuzzle book a few years ago and got mostly through it until today I finally finished it (my daughter took over the tablet). It was a great read and I remember reading about most of it back in the day when it was being posted here. It has been awesome to watch your lifestyle and family do what you do versus what mine does (which is living on a farm in Arkansas raising goats, chickens, and helping out with 4-H).

It has been refreshing to read versus watch the adventure unfold and I find myself seeing if a new story has been made yet. Keep these post coming.
