Port Resolution is a pretty magnificent anchorage. It’s well protected, has a long flat beach, fairly healthy coral, and enough fish to keep the local population fed (though I didn’t see many fish that I would bother with a spear). It’s got a great view, very friendly locals, and a village chief willing to go out of his way to make our visit enjoyable.
The whole place feels raw and untouched, despite there being villages scattered all over the place in amongst the trees.
Loaded up and ready to be transported and tossed into Mount Yasur—the active volcano looming a couple miles away—as offerings.
Some rickety two-by-fours keep all of us inches away from certain death.
Cool album cover.
Mount Yasur is the real deal—every few minutes there’d be a rumbling boom as the lava shot high into the air. At one point a guide told everyone to step back, which made me laugh. Does the lava blow right up and onto where we are standing, but not blow ten feet further back?
I thought about contributing my drone to the volcano gods, but the high winds kept me from doing anything stupid.
Mount Yasur was a great experience, especially with friends, but by the end of our visit we would all have liked to get a lot closer to the lava—we were freezing up there.

Wow really something to see…!!!
The fence is newish, not there on my trip, but that was a long time ago.
That mushroom hoodie, though
That was borrowed from a friend. We were all digging it, though.
All I ever think is, WOW!!!! What a wonderful lifetime of adventures 🥰
Incredible!!
Good parents! Experiential family unit…nothing, absolutely nothing better!
Goodonyas!
That “cool album cover” photo really shows the sketchiness of the “guardrail”.
Possibly your daughter wouldn’t agree it was her preferential representation of all…! Beautiful kids!
Not quite close enough to roast the marshmallows.
