Now that’s a kid who is comfortable on the water.
We’ve got the same nose.
Struck me as funny that Ali and the rest of the women in the family (sorry, Lowe) went to a flea market up the road and the only picture Ali took was of an outboard motor.
Trying to teach the kids that fish deserve a kiss for allowing us to catch them. I love the differing reactions of the kids in this picture.
Live action photo of the Schulte family dancing to their favorite country man, Darius Rucker. Not sure who the photog was in this case, but it goes a long way towards explaining why there is never a candid photo of all four of us at the same time.
Ali once dated a member of the Mauer family, which she likes to point out every time we see the Twins play. She dated him in 8th grade, but by her telling you’d think she is first in line to inherit Joe Mauer’s millions.
Two signs that you are in Minnesota. Grain Belt and construction.
Ouest is currently going through a cartwheel phase. She does about 1,000 per day. Anywhere, and everywhere.
We find it sort of amusing that we grew up in the land of 10,000 lakes, but only now, when we’re long gone, do our families own homes on lakes. I would have given anything to have this backyard as a kid.
Ouest and Burt Reynolds.
I don’t know how we always manage to be in Minnesota for the State Fair. But here we go again.
No way was Aunt Toni gonna sneak in a sip of Lowe’s limonada.
Grandma and Grandpa likely posed like this for a photo in their teens as well.
Funny thing is, I couldn’t tell a lens had fallen out. I didn’t know why my family was laughing at me.
Hot and tired. Long day at the fair winding down.
It’s a tradition of ours to always hit the photo booth at the fair. Every once in a while we come across the stack of them and smile.

LOVE the photo booth shots! And wow seriously your dad totally looks like Burt Reynolds! I know you’ve told your full adoption story and that you now know your biological mother. I don’t remember the story of your bio father though. Is this him? Every time I see photos of him, you favor him so much. I wonder if it’s just coincidence!
Love the shot of the wooden canoe on the DeSoto. Some classics are just timeless.
Mark and Cindy
I continue to love your writing and parenting style! I showed all through school and can relate SOOO much to the guy sleeping in the stall behind his Guernsey’s. Happy Trails and Safe Travels- I know how much work it can be taking us along for the adventures, but we all sincerely appreciate it!
Looks like a blast!!
I keep wanting to take the kids to a big fair on the mainland with a big Country star as the kids have become huge Country fans (some of the only their age on Maui) but can’t seem to find one that coincides with our trips. Is the MN fair big enough to attract the likes of Darius or other big stars?
While we’re at it, do you have a stereo onboard Bumfuzzle? Use it much? What kind of music do the kids like? Do they use their iPads to listen to tunes?
When I first looked at the pic of the kids on the spinning ride, I read the marquee on the ride in the background as Ambian Daze. 🙂 (I know, I know, it’s Arabian Daze. And, for that matter, the sleep drug is Ambien . . . but still. . . )
I did that lost lens thing once. I drove all over the county, stoped at several four-way stop signs and red lights. People just stared at me like I was nuts. All I thought was I needed to clean my glasses because one side was really clear.
I always enjoy the fair pictures, so much color and action. That shot of the four of you at the game is terrific, family love so evident.
Ali, please tell your mom that I think her hair looks fab!
