There are a few things that are quintessentially Minnesota: snow, ice, humidity, mosquitos, and the State Fair. We love the fair, and are always happy when we can time a visit to coincide with it. We’ve been to a lot of fairs on our travels, but none compare to Minnesota’s. It’s a place where time stands still—where it feels as if nothing has changed since I was just a wee lad. As if to prove my point, twenty years ago Ali and I saw an Alan Jackson concert here—because, Chattahoochee—and this year he’s there again.
It seems like a lot of people wait all year to come out here and pay a fortune to eat french fries.
Ouest was embarrassed that she spilled roughly half of her sno-cone down her shirt.
Can’t imagine why this guy had to sit there and hold that sign. Pretty sure he was sleeping.
I never had a grandma, and if this sign is correct, that may be a good thing.
They were running some old tractors—apparently this abandoned old lady didn’t care for the noise.

One thing looks like it has changed, the price of the French Fries. Ouch!

OK ..what did Ali say to get that look!!!! from her sis?
Wow! So many happy faces! In Vancouver, BC we have the Pacific National Exhibition or PNE on the go now. A similar thing, haven’t been in ages, it’s just too expensive.
So good!! Were these taken with the new camera? Do you feel less inhibited about taking peoples photo with it, instead of with a big dslr? I don’t even take mine out in markets or on the street, it feels too awkward. Sometimes I wish I had a smaller pocket camera that I could use for more discreet people watching.
Yes, only brought along the x100t this day. And yes, it’s much easier to get in front of people to take a picture with this.
I love that pic of the little girl at the cotton candy booth. So soft and pinkish!
wow. just got back from minnesota and the fair last weekend! have a great visit! we fell in love with WI and MN but then rmembered it is likely only nice a couple months a year so we’re back on the Caribbean. have a great visit!
I adore the lady with the tractors! Great shot! And my grandma never made open faced spam sandwiches. She made scotch on the rocks.
See, I knew I missed out by not having a grandma.
Pat – great photos. While you are here in the great Pacific NW come on up to the WA State Fair, aka “the Puyallup”! It’s happening now. Sadly, the OR State Fair ended this past Sunday, the 7th. The two most traditional fast-food treats here in WA are Puyallup “onion burgers” and Fisher scones, with or without add-ins like blueberries and cranberries and with or without great fresh made local jams – strawberry, raspberry, peach, etc. And – I LOVE the picture of Lowe driving his monster truck, Unlike the cars/trucks on the plaza in MX with Ouest driving, he got to do it ALONE! I’ll bet he was in little boy heaven!
