Making Memories

Our good friend Xochi turned six the other day, which meant a beach party and piñata.

Xochi doesn’t know it yet, but Lowe has told us that he’s taking her along on his motorcycle trip. The around-the-world motorcycle trip that he and Ouest have been planning for the past few months. I hope she’s up for it.

The inherent joy of being a kid. Even if we adults could only retain a tiny fraction of that, we would still live in a much better world.

I could have used a little more joy when I discovered this at the end of a great day.

Hanging out with friends in Lo de Marcos.

Xochi being a trooper. Posing for a photo while bleeding profusely from her leg.

And still more friends. A VW family hanging out in Lo de Marcos for a couple months.

We moved down the road to Puerto Vallarta for a little while. Found this Airstream as the only other camper in the park. The owners are nowhere to be found, though.

Mangoes are ripe and falling off the trees all day and night.

Around Puerto Vallarta.

I’ve decided that this is my favorite architectural style of all. Don’t ask me to put a name on it, though.

It’s always fun to bring the kids here. We tell them about being born here, show them the places we lived, and the places we’ve explored with them. It’s a trip down memory lane for us, and the older they get the more they soak up these stories themselves.

Many, many hours were spent in that rooftop pool during the Puerto Vallarta summer heat. Ouest killed one of her front teeth on those pool steps.

  1. We shed a little tear when we ate the last mango from our tree a few weeks ago (in Laos). Fortunately, there are many varieties available year round! The photo of your fridge made me hungry for fruit 🙂

  2. Holy moly we miss PV and Banderas Bay!!!!
How do those bananas do in the fridge? Don’t know if I’ve ever seen that. Does it work? 🙂

    1. You’ve never had cold bananas? You’re in for a treat. Skin gets black quicker, but inside keeps just fine, maybe better.

  3. Great photos, cute kids. Ahhh, Lowe, nothing better than ‘young love’. Don’t worry Pat, “it’ll buff right out” (planes Trains an Automobiles).

  4. Wth, your poor car, it’s like when I had my ’68 Mustang, I felt like everyone was either trying to beat it up or take it bit by bit.

  5. Oh Oh, motorcycles! Isn’t that something you haven’t done yet? I can see the four of you with something like 2 huge Gold-wings with trailers. I did a trip from Eugene to Whitehorse, Dawson, Anchorage, and back to Germany. It was fantastic. But I ended up selling the bike because I thought it was just too dangerous, with all the traffic and crazy drivers here.

I was running from one appointment to the other with my son this week, and was really envious of you guys. Great pictures, great life, I really am envious!

    1. Thanks, Dave. We haven’t done any big motorcycle trips outside the States, but it’s on the list. Almost got an Africa moto trip in there, but Ouest came along. I have to say, though, that there is no way I’d do it on a big new Goldwing. If I’m not uncomfortable and worried about breaking down, then it’s not an adventure on wheels. 🙂 Something classic for sure!

  6. Either you are still in PV, or there are two ’68 International Travelalls in Mexico. I saw your truck parked over at Peninsula Plaza this morning while I was out riding my bicycle. It is a small world!

    1. Hey John, Yep, I was over there on the hunt for decent internet. We’re over at the campground in town. Stop on by if you’re out riding around again.

  7. Wow. haven’t checked in on the fam in a few months and I can’t believe how big Lowe has gotten. I almost didn’t recognize him in the first photo!! Also, your photography skills have really become excellent.
