I took another look around today and decided that this is actually a pretty beautiful spot. If you ignore the resort in the scene the rest of the place is full of menacing looking dinosaur islands, desert somehow full of green, and the ever encroaching Sierra Gigantes. They are right on top of us. Baja simply is not a landscape in which you’d expect to find yourself sailing through.

The anchorage really cleared out the last couple of days as some light north winds came along. I suspect a lot of people are heading back to La Paz to leave their boats and fly home for the summer. It would have been nice to actually use the sails to move the boat along for a few miles, but we weren’t going anywhere just yet. And yes, it is a rare sight indeed to see a sailboat in the Sea with its sails up. On our way north we only had the main up for stabilizing and didn’t see a single boat under sail, just bare poles trudging along in the calm seas and light winds.

Ali and Ouest made banana bread this morning. That’s a first. And it was fantastic. Ouest loves helping Ali cook. When Ali tells her thanks for helping she beams and says, “No Papa, no Papa.” Just her and mama cooking up a storm.

Ouest and I went over to the tiny fishing village on the other end of the bay this morning and discovered the remains of a long forgotten swing set. She stood in front of that thing for a full minute imagining the fun that once was. Then we went to the MiniSuper which was in fact super. Easily the best grocery shopping to be had for a full hundred miles from here on south. No fruit though. We are a super fruit eating family now and we simply cannot keep enough onboard. Today saw the disappearance of a pineapple, a mango, bananas, and kiwi. The kids both eat it all like we are serving them a plate of Skittles and M&Ms.
