On Sunday nights the resort here has a welcome party/show that is routinely invaded by cruisers for the free drinks. Ali and Ouest have turned it into a sort of mother-daughter weekly outing. They both knock back a couple of pina coladas and then, apparently, get crazy.

Each week they call all the kids up on stage for a game. Ouest usually just likes to watch but this week when Ali asked Ouest if she wanted to go play the game she said yes and ran for the stage.

She got up on stage and was the youngest, and no doubt the most adorable, one up there. The game was that they would play music and you would take a sombrero, put it on your head, spin around, then pass it to the next person. Whoever had the hat on when the music stopped was out. Ouest was so young that one of the girls from the Kid’s Club stood behind her, lifted the hat off, and put it on the next kid when it was time. Well Ouest made it through the first few rounds and the crowd was really getting behind her, cheering her on, and she was loving it.

As the emcee riled up the crowd for another round Ali suddenly noticed Ouest doing a bit of an I-have-to-pee dance. She ran up to the stage and as soon as Ouest saw her she took off running.

Nobody in the crowd knew what the heck was going on. She just up and left, with all the glory of the Sombrero Spinning Championship on the line. The emcee figured out what was going on as Ouest and Ali disappeared into the hotel lobby. “Oh, she needed to use the loo,” he announced to the crowd for a good laugh.

We don’t know what we are more proud of her about; going up on stage like that or running off the stage like that. Good thing it was Ali there and not me because I’m terrible at taking a hint (or spotting a dancing one), and let’s face it, an accident at that moment would have left her in therapy well into her thirties.

Unfortunately this is not a video of her quick exit.
