Local Isla

Ouest finally got a chance to try out the mermaid tail Santa brought her this year. I was surprised how quickly she got used to it, and how fast she was able to swim with it on. In a race across the pool she was taking me down.

Playa Centro is a fun beach to hang out with the Mexicans on holiday, and yet be away from the North Beach’s wall to wall umbrella/chair/restaurant businesses. It’s also where the one small deepwater channel runs for the ships coming on and off the island.

I always like the local’s scooters. Each one is unique. Nobody has a plain-jane scooter that hasn’t been modified in some way to work for their purposes. This one definitely carries a family of four, and the groceries. Love the old Hondas. I almost put one on the Travco’s bumper years ago.

Isla Mujeres is clearly a popular tourist spot, but there are still some hidden gem taco joints. Taqueria Glenssy was a unique place for some good eats. So good Lowe had to order seconds.

You wouldn’t leave your wife just because she had a few wrinkles, so why would you replace a scooter just because it had a little rust?

Finger knitting. Apparently this is something little girls do. I’d never heard of it.

Banksy style.

  1. It’s hard to keep rust away in an ocean environment. It’s cool to see the scooters and the mods to them.

    Enjoy the tacos!

  2. I hope whoever graffitied “Love is total acceptance . . . ” committed the rest to memory!

  3. HAPPY NEW YEAR BUMS! Haven’t had a strong enough connection to catch up with youse for awhile, here in Spanish campings. Good times for you, back in Tacoville!
What a delight to see Ouest scooting thru the water with her mermaid tail! ๐Ÿ™‚ After visiting Weeki Wachee at 8 years old, that was my dream life. But 57 years ago no one even imagined selling mermaid tails to girls like me. LOL!
    Happy tails!

    1. Hi Gail, So when I was researching Mermaid Tails (for Santa of course) I asked a friend who has a daughter the same age as Ouest and asked for her recommendation – she said that after her daughter attended Mermaid Camp (how cool is that!) at Weeki Wachee they all use Fin Fun. And I thought of you right away. ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Hello Bums! Are you familiar with this ‘children’s book’ ? “Kensuke’s Kingdom” by Michael Morpurgo If you’re not I suggest it for reading aloud to Ouest & Lowe (and I think you’ll enjoy it too). It’s a bit like your real life adventure.

    1. Sounds like a great book. HOWEVER sometimes we avoid these books as living on a boat with kids, and reading about bad storms and getting washed up on shore can cause problems. I have it in our cart and will save it for off-season summer reading. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Yesterday we had winds of 40+ and two boats are now washed up on land. It was crazy and lasted hours. Boat life.
