Local Celebs

We were at the library today when a news crew stopped and started chatting up Ali. We were actually outside the library at this point, in the atrium area letting the kids run around and throw pennies in the pond. They were shooting a bit about what parents are doing with their kids to keep from going crazy in this weather. Kind of fitting actually. Anyway, they did a quick soundbite and shot a couple scenes of us all walking around, and then we took off.

Back at home this evening we missed the fact that the local news actually begins at 4:30 and runs more or less every half hour until the next day. Seriously, does anybody need this much local news? Anyway, the clip aired and we missed it.

A few minutes before five her sister (who hadn’t been told that Ali was going to be on) called and asked, “Does Ali always have to get all the attention?”

These awesome high quality screen grabs were taken from the online video clip of this hard-hitting story.

I somehow thought the kids would find this to be kind of cool, but neither of them sat through the video clip or made one mention of it—ever.

What they did care about was their grandpa’s 109th (?) birthday. Yes balloons were blown up first thing in the morning—grandpa never did see them. And yes, Ali made cupcakes and the kids decorated them. And of course Ouest climbed over the counter to blow her mucus all over the candle.

The kids are getting pretty darn good at this routine, even belting out Happy Birthday start to finish.

Funny thing with our kids is that all the excitement of cupcakes doesn’t really translate to eating cupcakes. Ouest ate about 2/3 of hers, and Lowe took just one bite before setting it down and running off to play. And before you go blaming the cupcakes, let me just say that they were excellent.

  1. I love how the blue light glows in the backround of the cupcake picture. I couldn’t understand how the pics of the library were all warm and snowless, then I got it…atrium. Good to have. I should get one.

  2. I watched the broadcast. I don’t understand how everyone can look healthy and act nice in the midst of that ‘snowmageddon’. It’s been sunny and dry with shirtsleeves temps all winter here in far northern California and a great many of us are cranky and/or obese. We haven’t had a ski season on Mt Shasta this year, the park is still unable to open, it’s almost completely bare. I would be perfectly happy in MN if it had mountains.

  3. What I want to know is what the anchors said after the story. “Did I hear that right….” and trails off.”Did I hear that right that the Schulte family is visiting from Mexico? What are they, nuts?? And is it true that their children actually are Mexicans?….” I’m sure it was interesting….

  4. Al has had a lot of work done to make him look less than 109 (and to still hold Susie’s attention)
