Keys Sail

Always fun to come across Wyland paintings while traveling. If you’re looking for a “hook” for your travel blog I offer you up the Wyland Whaling Walls Tour.

One of the great things about our lifestyle is that we have friends wherever we go. Key West seems to be a popular spot for Bum friends to land, and it wasn’t long at all before we found ourselves invited out for a sail on the 105′ Schooner America 2.0.

One of the toughest chores in boat life—at least until we get out of the States and can afford to just drop it off again.

We’re moored in a huge bay surrounded by land, but none of it is a beach. At least there is Rat Key, a little island in the middle of the bay, right?

We visited the Coast Guard Cutter Ingham one day. As always, the kids’ favorite part of the ship was the bunkbeds.

It’s always fun to get a peek into the officer’s quarters versus the rest of the crew.

When in Key West…

Not expecting Lowe to like Key Lime pie, we just got a small one. That was a mistake. You can see my spoon sitting over there all lonely and sad.

One of the really nice things about Key West is how walkable it is. Pretty much everything is within a half hour stroll.

  1. Happy Birthday to Ouest tomorrow. Our granddaughter who shares the birthday will turn 21. Time flies when you are having fun! We thought Key West was a great place too. We celebrated Max’s birthday there quite a few years ago.

  2. It’s bikeable too. I’ve never been there that my daughter didn’t have a bike for me. Nowadays she has a Jeep. Let me know if you need a vehicle for anything. She may be able to help you out.

  3. I’m not even doing laundry at my daughters house before I go back to Playa del Carmen. I’d rather just drop it off and pick it it up all folded for less than $2.50 USD.

Great photos as usual. If you gotta be stuck in the States, you do worse than Key West. Glad to y’all are having a good time.

  4. Key West is so cool. Can’t afford to live there, but it sure is fun to visit, and the key lime pie is the best! The second photo, of the kids’ hair, is gorgeous. Such amazing hair…oh, to be young again! Enjoy your time in Key West!

  5. You’re writing always cracks me up Pat. Good dry sense of humor, ie lonely spoon. I hope I get to meet you all in person one day, as I have followed your blog for so long and corresponded with you and Ali a few times, I feel like I know you all, even though I don’t. You guys have raised such good kids. Always a pleasure reading about them and seeing the pics. Have a Merry Christmas!
