Joshua Tree National Park

Nobody was in a hurry to leave the lake. It almost seems sometimes that the less there is to do (in our adult minds) the more the kids find to do.

We did eventually make it down to Joshua Tree. We spent a night in the Black Rock Canyon hiking and chasing rabbits, then moved on over to the Jumbo Rocks campground. The rocks in Joshua Tree are incredibly rough granite, which meant that within an hour or so both kids had bloody knees, hands, arms, and legs. And yet all we did for a couple of days is climb.

I went out to try and get a nice star shot, but then I remembered this little flashlight trick and forgot all about the stars.

  1. We love that park, some great hikes but I can see how it would cause body knees. I’m sure the many rock climbers are familiar with that side effect. Ouest is climbing Orca’s chin!

    1. Your own private park whether it be a house in the city or some country acreage. Different strokes for different folks as it should be. When I get my slice of heaven presentable there is going to be prominent nod to the Bumfuzzle philosophy at the entrance.

    1. Long exposure, 30-second in this case, hit the shutter release, and then you just quickly do whatever you want with the flashlight while standing in front of the camera.

  2. I love those rocks. We see them in So. CA and AZ and they are just amazing! I always think of it as where God put his left over rocks after creating the earth. They make for wonderful picture-taking!

  3. Now, of course I knew she was such a very cute little girl. But to make a boulder grin?

    Now that is something!

I am so glad, and especially for the kiddos, that your great times generally meet or exceed your great photos.
