Hierve el Agua—the water boils—isn’t really an apt name for this place. The water that bubbles out of the rocks is only about 75 degrees. It is loaded with minerals, however, which is what really put it on the map. We got there early—as in before ten o’clock—and there were only two other people there. By the time we left the tour buses had started to arrive and we were thankful to have shown up when we did.
I swear this tree was stuck there as a prop.
Ouest searching for some warmer water. She may have gained two degrees in this spot near the source.
The water bubbles up through the rocks slowly and just sort of trickles its way down the hills leaving mineral deposits behind, similar to stalactites in a cave.
Her fingers were blue when she got out of the water.
Lowe loves to build these contraptions on the front of the bus. He calls out, “Come look at my bus,” and is quite proud of them when they are complete. He tells us where his drivers seat is and where we can sit, and then he takes us on drives to places like Mazatlan, Portland, and “Pota Vyata.”

Your photography is becoming brilliant, of course your subjects are beautiful. I look forward to every new post.
Thanks, appreciate the compliment.
I second Oliver’s comment.
Just love the picture of you and Ouest. She’s got a gangsta pose.
I was thinking 70s skater/surfer girl pose. 🙂
So when is the coffee table photography book coming out? Complete agreement, love the photos almost as much as the stories. Isn’t it about time for a Grammy visit?
Hey Pat,
What kind of camera/lense are you using these days? I know you answered this question before, but I can’t find the post
Canon 6D with the 24-105mm lens. Also have the Canon 15mm fisheye and 50mm prime.
Thanx for the info, I’m heading for Bocas for the 3rd time, and maybe if I get the right Camera, I’ll start creating some memories.
LOVE this post!! You know how I love hot springs (warm springs?) and this one looks awesome!! Once again, lucky kids!!
Speaking of, we are doing a trip to the Teton/Yellowstone area this summer and it’s starting to shape up like a hot spring trip. Particularly excited about Boiling River in Yellowstone, where a massive hot spring mixes with a mountain fed river and creates perfect soaking temperatures along a 1/4 mile section. Definitely one for your bucket list!! Enjoy!!
Love this spot.
