Hauling to Bangkok

The boat came out of the water for a fresh coat of bottom paint and to have the hulls polished. Two rather mind-numbing labor-intensive jobs that I had zero desire to do myself.

So the same day the boat came out of the water we climbed onto a little plane and flew off for Bangkok, leaving the sanding and painting to the pros.

We arrived late, meaning our first pictures of Bangkok were taken the next morning in a German bakery.

Is there anything better than an efficient public transportation system? The trains will get you close to just about anywhere you want to go in Bangkok, and the tuktuks, Grabs, or your feet can take over the last mile.

Chatuchak market is supposed to be the best in Bangkok. A place to eat every Thai delicacy, and a place to buy literally anything, if you know where to look.

Spicy pork balls. Yes, please.

Something that has always driven me nuts in foreign countries is books wrapped in plastic. I get it, sort of, but I have to believe they’d sell more books if people could put their hands on them.

I’d read about this honey grilled pork being hidden somewhere amidst the labarynthine market, and was determined to hunt it down. Chopped up into bite-sized pieces and served in a plastic bag with a kabob stick each delicious bite would make your legs wobble.

After a tough day eating our way through the market it was back to the AirBnB for an icy cold swim. It’s not nearly as warm in Bangkok as you might think, especially at night, so this was a bit of a polar plunge.

Don’t feel like walking ten blocks to the grocery? Twenty baht (.60 cents) will get you there.
