Hanging

This is about it around here right now. Spending time luxuriating in the grass (Mexico often appears to be completely devoid of green grass), eating popsicles, and hanging out with good friends. Somehow, despite having only spent a grand total of a few months in Portland over the years this is where almost all of our friends are. Portland just seems to be a hub for wanderers and we are constantly meeting other travelers who’ve either taken a break here or are just passing through.

We took the kids to the Central Library downtown again this morning. To mix it up we took the train—knowing that the kids would enjoy it. They did. It was a typical Portland sort of morning, dreary and drizzly, and the homeless were queueing up outside waiting for the doors to open. Once inside it seems they either ran to stake a claim to a particularly comfortable seat or to get into the public bathroom. If you ever need a jolt to show you just how good you’ve got it, 9:45 a.m. out front of the library should do the trick.

    1. Pat returns to Bumfuzzle to pick up Mango (the fish) on Wednesday with plans to set sail for Mazatlan on Friday (should all go as planned). The kids and I will meet up with him soon after.

      1. Definitely a neat picture composition. What software did you use to get the color versus grey scale effect?

        Thanks for the great blog.

        1. Thanks Mike. I use Aperture for all my photo work. The original of this picture had very little color in it besides the kids already so I thought it’d be nice to just jettison all of it. In Aperture it is as easy as picking a B&W filter and then “erasing” the black and white from whatever you want to, in this case the kids.

  1. Is the suburban life calling? 🙂

  2. Dear Ali, u r beautiful. Your husband can capture it so well along with the joy the kiddos bring you. Thanks for sharing your moments! Living in central pa I visit your blog to visit the ocean since I cannot walk to it. I should just fix that immediately I’m sure you r saying. For now it will do. Your photos r beautiful and it is inspirational to see bumfuzzle live a life they truly love and to be passionate enough about it to take the time to share it with everyone. Sail on.
