Ha, We Did It!

We survived the night. An easy thrumming of the motor and light breeze kept us chugging right along, nothing else broke, and Ali and I got next to no sleep on a night that if it were just the two of us we would have been hard pressed to stay awake for.

But hey Ouest and Lowe woke up in good moods ready to kick off another day at sea so that’s what we tried to do too. We got a bit of breeze to help push us along, but not enough for us to shut down completely, which is exactly the weather window we’d been looking for in the first place.

We pulled up to the anchorage here at four o’clock ready for a beer and maybe a swim. As we maneuvered into place to drop the anchor Ali tried the windlass and got nothing in return. I went below, checked the voltage at a few connections, checked the fuse, and found nothing out of the ordinary. We finally dropped the anchor manually, set it, dove on it, backed down on it, filled a couple of big buckets full of water for the kids to play in, opened a couple of beers, and relaxed. For ten seconds. That’s our limit.

The bay looks like a nice place with white sand, beach bar, and if the weather forecast holds, no wind or swell.

We actually did have other breakages. My computer’s SD card slot just stopped reading cards for some reason, and our TackTick wind/speed/depth instruments stopped working as well. They were froze up and wouldn’t even allow me to shut them off. They were in the direct sun and felt pretty hot so I moved them into the shade and a few minutes later they were working again. I’m really starting to wonder how these things became so popular. They don’t work in San Francisco Bay because of radio interference, and now they don’t work because they got too much sun on a boat. Makes me wonder what is next with them.

Anyway, I’m sounding cranky when I really shouldn’t be. We just sailed two hundred miles without major mishap and we’ve got at least a couple of good months of weather left to enjoy Baja. Not to mention the kids are in bed on time, we can go to sleep early, and tomorrow we can wake up and go to the beach.
