Ouest is away at summer camp, and Lowe doesn’t start his until two weeks after her, meaning that for a little while it’s just three of us. Of course, we’ve been checking the mail every day, and perhaps unsurprisingly, it took ten days to get our first letter. It was a relief to hear that she was having fun, and all was good. In fairness, it looks like it took the letter four days to reach us, so I’ll cut her a little slack.
This bald eagle hangs out around the lake and drives the loon absolutely crazy. Every time he takes flight the loon starts screaming, and if he comes down low like this the loon actually comes “running” across the water while he yells. It’s pretty cool to have both of them on a small lake right here in suburbia. Despite being the state bird, I can’t imagine how long it has been since I’ve seen a loon.
I refuse to back down. Once upon a time Ali and I were actually pretty good bowlers. We even bowled in a league in Chicago. We drank a lot of beer and still managed to roll some decent games. I still remember my brush with 300, when I striked-out right up until the 9th frame.
One of the greatest memories we have of our adventures was running the Great Race back in 2007. It was so much fun competing day in and day out for two weeks as we crossed the country and rolled through all the small towns and friendly crowds along the way. We recently heard that our race had inspired another Porsche owner to run it, so when we saw it was passing through Chippewa Falls about an hour or so away, we decided to drive over and see them come in.
An absolutely epic ride.
Our new Bum friend’s ride. It was fun to meet them, and to spend a couple of hours seeing all the awesome old cars come through. Ali and I took a look at our blog posts from the race and realized we’d hardly included a fraction of the photos we had from the race, so I went through and added a ton more. June and July 2007
Chippewa Falls is where Leinenkugle beer is brewed. Looks like this local guy went and picked up lunch.

Cool! Thanks for the photos (and memories)! Quintessential America, as we once knew it. 🙂
I loved reading about the great race! one of my favorite adventures of yours. Really cool Lowe got to witness a bit of it. Going back to review the posts and pictures for a little nostalgia now.
almost as if I experienced the whole race again.
I like big dumps, and I cannot lie….
Well Done, Again again!
