The other day I took Ouest out on a little lunch date downtown. We hit our favorite taco stall at the market—a place we’ve been eating tacos together since she was three. We drank horchata, fed pigeons, and just strolled around. She makes a good date.
There is always some third wheel that sticks his nose in.
We had a new kitchen table made. This is me trying to put the brackets on it while Ouest just goes right to work using it for coloring.
We got a few things done while we were in Mazatlan. I had a mechanic come out and replace the rear main seal, and grease absolutely everything that needed greasing. Messy jobs. Also got a new hose to replace the broken oil pressure hose. And adjusted the brakes. We’re all fresh and ready to hit the road again.
Build-Your-Own paddle balls.
Last night in Mazatlan—a place all of us will always have very fond memories of.
Ouest asked about the night guard tonight when we were coming back from the showers. I explained that his job was just to stay up all night and keep an eye on the campground to make sure nobody that wasn’t supposed to be here came in.
“So he sleeps during the day?”
“Yep.”
“So he’s nocturnal!” hahaha. She laughed at her own joke.
While she was laughing I was thinking, crap, nocturnal is a pretty big word for a six-year-old to be making a joke out of, isn’t it? Especially on the fly.
Of course, I have no idea if it really is a big word for a six-year-old or not. Which is just fine by me. She’s a smart girl, with or without a standardized test to tell me so.
And, Papa’s Blue Bus reappears in a new tropical destination.
Demonstrating the completely wrong way to light a fire. “Okay, kids, do not lean over the top of the fire pit in order to light it, like this. Got it?”

Cinnamon moved to Mexico ? What a brat !
Didn’t you get her postcard?!
Such a beautiful family! Thank you for sharing our beautiful Mazatlan.
Is ‘nocturnal’ a pretty big word for a 6-yr. old to use correctly and make a joke with? Yes. Yes it is. 🙂
So what beach are we visiting now? I will miss Mazatlan ;(
A small friendly RV park in Celestino Gasca, 72 miles north of Mazatlan.
North?? Hmmmm, not what I would have guessed. Great pictures as usual! Can’t wait for the next chapter of the Magical Mystery Tour!! 😀
BTW, LOVE Ouest’s Sayulita Honu (Green Sea Turtle) t-shirt!! Very cool!! 😀
A birthday gift from her Sayulita BFF Xochitl.
I’ve been following your blog from the beginning and today I saw something that shocked me. Ouest is getting to big. I notice a little here and there, like I did with my own kids, but today’s post kinda caught me off-guard–suddenly she seems so tall! That Mexican food must really agree with her!
Hey Pat, here is a ’66 Travco parked up at San Blas. http://www.movingon1.com/blogme.html
That’s us, in San Carlos. 🙂
Hey guys,
A couple of questions on renting in Mexico (if you remember the last time 🙂 ):
1. Do you usually get utilities (water, power, gas) on your name, or they stay with the landlord?
2. Most popular website (i.e. rent.com equivalent, not gringo-fleecing coporate apartments) to look for places to rent?
Thx,
Dave
With the landlord.
Check the real estate websites. They almost always have a for rent section separate from their sales pages. Good deals there. Or just contact a real estate agent in the town. This really only works for the bigger towns, though. Otherwise just show up and ask around for a couple days while you stay in a hotel or campground.
