After a couple of weeks without moving from our anchorage in Christiansted we pulled up the anchor to find that the grass had decided we were staying forever. Should have dropped the chain a little more a couple days earlier to let that drag through the sand and clean itself off. Will do that on the next drop.
We know where we’re heading next, we just don’t know when. Need a weather window of a couple of days to open up for us, which at this time of year doesn’t happen all that often. The trade winds are incredibly consistent, and they don’t seem to care that we’d like them to take a brief break.
To make sure we’re ready when the time comes we pulled in to Green Cay Marina to top off the diesel. The boat on the right in this picture is a 40′ Island Trader. Back before we bought our Spindrift we were about five minutes from buying one of these motorsailers in Seattle. We were going back and forth with the broker to make the deal, and had gotten down to a difference of $74k vs $72k. The owner wouldn’t finish—at least according to the broker—stuck on his price. Despite the $2k being basically meaningless in the grand scheme of things, I woke up the next morning with a gut feeling that it was a mistake and we’d find something else. We pulled our offer and walked away. A year later the boat was still for sale, sitting in a downtown Seattle marina that had probably cost the owner $15k in that time. I still think they are cool boats, though.
We headed back around St. Croix to Frederiksted.
Joking about being a pack mule.
Sometimes easy to forget we’re in a U.S. Territory.
There’s a barbeque place in town that shreds up some awesome pulled pork take-away. Ali can whip it up ten different ways.
Some other boat kids sailed in.

Ali – I still smile every time I see a photo of one of your (delicious looking) dinners. I’m remembering the posts from that first trip around the world and the provisioning lists that consisted mostly of candy and chips. You’ve come a long way baby! 🙂
So fun to follow your adventures and see how the kids have grown.
You aren’t kidding. Pat says it all the time too. We (I) didn’t cook for over 2 years in the VW bus! I still don’t “enjoy” it but when it gets gobbled up, it helps. Plus there is so much on the internet now – 1 skillet/pot are my go-to. Ha Ha.
