I know everyone hates varnishing, and I admit I’m not great at it, but it really does feel good to get a fresh coat or two on every now and then. So long as you haven’t waited too long and let the old stuff deteriorate too badly, which fortunately I didn’t do this time.
Also time to freshen up the chain depth markings. Fortunately, it has been nice and calm here so I haven’t ended up painting the boat.
Deep in the bottom of the bow locker where dock lines live I found this little guy who we are 99% sure is the one who has been with us since last year in Guatemala.
You know it’s gonna be a good day when the tape roll ends here.
Trying out some of this window shade stuff. It installed super easy, without any bubbles, unlike traditional tint. No idea if it will hold up to the rigors of boat life, but we’ll see. It can only be installed in one direction, otherwise I’d have installed it on the inside.
Quiet nights on the dock here.
While I was on the boat, the kids were playing in Minnesota’s earliest accumulation of over an inch of snow in history, and in the end they got about 5 inches. They managed to cobble together a collection of random clothes and get out to enjoy the white stuff.
Ouest and Aunt Toni getting the most out of the early snow.
Looks a bit like an operating room, and I guess it sort of is.
I spent a few days with my mom, catching up after too long apart, and trying to help her with a few things around the house. Perhaps not surprisingly this is the only picture I took during my trip. The tires still need replacing after a blowout on the last visit, but I fired up the engine and sat in the driver’s seat with my eyes closed pretending I was whistling around corners in the Alps. Definitely a future trip.
Looking a bit like the fun of cold and snow is wearing off.
Fortunately, the first snow never sticks around long. Unfortunately, it’s not fishing season.
Aunt Katy knows the nice hikes.
And that’s it for Minnesota. A burnt marshmallow to cap off the last night before ditching the clothes and getting back to boat life.

So unusual to see the kids in snow, red checks, having fun. Great pumpkin carving! Sounds like a good break for all. Oh, that car. What a beauty. Reminds me of the lines of my 2017 Beetle, though sexier. Eager to see what you get up to over winter. Have a blast!
The most important unanswered question. Is it alive?
haha, yeah, he ran off to continue leaving his little gecko poop scattered around the boat. The happy bachelor.
Alaways a treat for warm weather kids to have a snow day! Raised my daughter here in USVI and ‘cobbling together’ warm clothing was an unfashion conscious event.
Great family fun and the car looks well rested.
Hiya! Yes, their entire lives when visiting family in MN, it has been a wide array of borrowed/hand-me-down/non-fitting outfits. Makes me laugh at the combos. Be over your way again soon.
Thank you for your blog. Much thanks again. Really Cool. Juline Edouard Philis
