This morning we went for a hike up to El Faro, the self-proclaimed second highest (not tallest) lighthouse in the world. Somehow I seriously doubt the veracity of that claim, but also don’t really give a crap. This was a fun outing. We started out early enough that sweatshirts were still required. About ten minutes in and they were off. Ouest and Lowe climbed the hill by running, hopping, skipping, and all the other ways—including being carried—that kids do. They had a blast. Ouest fell at one point and sliced her leg open, of course, but soldiered on, and after a half an hour or so—maybe it was an hour—we reached the top.
At the top we made friends with the local pup who was definitely well taken care of. She hung out with us and didn’t eat any snacks out of the kids hands—which is how you know. We hung out up there for a while, enjoyed the scenery, played with the swinging garbage cans, and took silly pictures. On the way down the dog decided to join us. All the way. Ouest kept yelling, “Come on puppy!” while laughing hysterically. Her face was beet red by the bottom from running and laughing for thirty minutes straight.
Good times. There is nothing more enjoyable to me nowadays than doing something as simple as climbing a hill and watching the kids have an absolute blast in the process.
By the way, that picture below shows the cruiser’s anchorage which has supposedly been shut down by the harbor master because so many cruiser’s had been having their dinghies stolen. That’s all hearsay, and I know people who’ve stayed there since the rumor started, but whatever. I only mention it because I find it amusing that the way the harbor master is going about solving the problem of stolen dinghies is not by trying to catch the dinghy thieves, but by booting the cruisers out and eliminating dinghies from the harbor completely.

The photo of Lowe with his sunglasses is so great! Brie hugged and kissed the picture of the kitty and doggy. Loved your video too. I told Brie “Those are Cora’s friends.” She said she wants to meet you. I told her another time. So close but so far! Have heaps of fun!
Pat, Ali, Lowe, Ouest….
so glad to see these pics, read this story, connect again. I have been holding off on going to your site for the last month, week and one day, since my accident. I have had lots of time on the internet, and been tempted, but there was reason I let your posts accumulate unread by me. I have, for the last 2 years, been following you while at work, dispatching, and reading in my spare time . ( lots of downtime while night shift dispatching emergencies in a small county ) I held off, because going back to work is such a huge step. It means that I have recovered well enough to return to my means of financial support. That I am very close to being recovered. ( only a few more months and I will be walking normally! ) anyway, logging in today, finding the spare time, and catching up on you guys…. it really was amazing, and touched me. I LOVE following your family around via web. Hope to see you guys again in person, and glad to be monitering your status. Please give Ali a hug for me. Ali, if you read this first, give Pat a hug for me. 🙂
Love
