Out to dinner with the whole family. I remember when we used to look for restaurants with a lot of people in them because you figured that meant they had good food. Now we hope instead that the place is empty so our kids can use it as a playground while we actually eat our food and converse with company.
Granted, the kids are pretty good, it’s just a lot to ask of a one and two year-old to sit still at a table for an hour plus. Of course one way to do that with Ouest is to sit and have a book reading session. That’s her below sitting on her Aunt Katy’s lap, surrounded by family, reading Curious George.
We got a Curious George book from the library dated 1941 that is one of the most hilarious things I’ve ever read. First George gets snatched out of the African jungle by the man with the yellow hat, then he is sitting on a ship playing cards and smoking a pipe, and finally he is thrown in a zoo where he sits on a dead tree branch smiling. We’re supposed to believe that he is happier here than in that lush jungle he was just swinging around in with a banana in his hand. Smoking a pipe. That is awesome. We knew how to tell kids a story seventy years ago.
