Everyone was happy to be back on the water. The kids were up bright and early and swimming while most people were having their first cup of coffee. We took our time getting started and then moved about 10 miles away to Denny’s Beach, out on the lake away from town, and we’d soon realize away from everyone else.
Nothing better than cruising inland waterways. So calm, so easy.
A month ago I hooked the water up to the dinghy and fired it up for the first time in a few months. When I had put it away for the season I had ran the gas out of it, and now I was happy to have it start on the first turn, run smooth, and idle perfectly. Of course, I then failed to run the gas out of it again. Fast forward one month. Dinghy in the water, hit the starter, and nothing. Wouldn’t start. I spent a couple hours fiddling around, but I didn’t have any carb cleaner or Sea Foam or anything to work with, so it wasn’t a big surprise when I couldn’t get it going.
Lowe’s first time on his new paddleboard. He loved it immediately. Ouest had gotten hers last year, but didn’t use it that much because Lowe didn’t have one. Now they won’t get off of them.
Killing time while waiting for me to give up on the dinghy.
My punishment was to be used as a paddleboard motor for Ali on her SUP.
This scene could easily be mistaken for an ocean bay, instead of a freshwater lake.
We were, not surprisingly, the only customers at Denny’s Beach that day. Just us, a bartender, and a cook. What more could we need?
Of course as we were waiting for dinner, the wind kicked up and we could see that getting back to the boat was going to be no small project. Fortunately, they were happy to run us back out to our boat on their lancha. Not being familiar with the weather patterns out here, we decided to play it safe and get everything back up and loaded on the boat. By the time we finished, the wind had died again and we had total calm overnight.

Nice to see you guys cruising again!
I’m loving that distinguished grey on you, Pat! Ali, how do you feel about the current state of Pat’s beard?! I have been following you guys for 10 years and have never seen Pat with so much hair! Ha! I love how healthy and active Ouest and Lowe are!
The beard is okay. He does this every once in awhile and usually during the hottest months. All of sudden he will shave it off, and I will miss it. That’s how it goes. Gosh are my kids fit — I really need to chase after them again like when they were toddlers. Need vs want. 🙂
What a lovely spot! Looks like the kids are having a blast, as per the norm. Enjoy!
Thanks, Emily. They just adjust so quickly to wherever we are or what we are doing. They amaze me.
Pat, I’d be very interested in getting in on the ground floor and investing in your new technology:
“A month ago I hooked the water up to the dinghy and fired it up for the first time in a few months.”
An internal combustion engine that runs on water will undoubtedly change the world! 🙂

Well, I’m not sure there is much money to be made in hooking up a fresh water flusher to an outboard engine that isn’t in the water in order to start it without having it overheat on you. But totally agree with you on the rest of that comment. 😉
Where did you get the paddle boards from? Are the inflatable?
Yes, iSUP. They are great, pretty small when stored, and inflate easily in a few minutes. https://amzn.to/3640iMN
