Weird weather lately. No sun? What’s up with that? It’s Mexico, it’s always sunny. This morning we headed in to the beach and we were the only ones on it. There is just no keeping our kids on the boat though. Mornings go like this.
Lowe wakes up about 6:15 and one of us tries to keep him in his room as long as possible so he doesn’t wake Ouest up. She usually wakes up half an hour later. The minute she wakes up she demands, “Mango juice.” Then corrects herself when she sees the way we are looking at her. “Mango juice please?” Lowe is by this time shoveling little snack puff things down his throat by the fistful.
Ali makes pancakes and bacon—yes, we are full on breakfast eaters now. Breakfast is the one meal of the day the kids can be counted on to devour, so we make the most of it.
Breakfast done and Ouest usually gets involved with playing something on her own, while Lowe starts climbing the steps over and over in an effort to get someone to go outside with him. When he can be contained no longer we begin the excruciating process of slathering them both up with sunblock. Neither of them has the patience for this and it ends up every day with us chasing screaming children around the house with our palms full of greasy white lotion.
Lotion on, bag of snacks packed, one last trip to the toilet, and we are in the dinghy and on our way to the beach. It is 9:30 a.m.—Ali and I are exhausted and ready for bed.
This afternoon we went ashore with the intention of walking up into town (not really a town so much as a neighborhood) for some lunner. We got ashore and immediately got to talking with some new Bum friends who have been following us for years and years and are now cruising themselves. For some reason this past month has been filled with these meet ups. It’s kind of crazy for us to think how long we’ve been at this now and for us to realize that we’re sort of the “old salts” now. All right, at 39 maybe we’re not quite old salts, but we’re certainly catching up quick. It won’t be long now before I can go back and read my old posts and go, “Oh crap, that’s me (now) that I’m talking about (then).”
Speaking of getting older. The other day I hired a guy that was wandering the docks looking for work to clean my stainless. I’ve reached a point where my time is worth slightly more than five bucks an hour to me. And there is no better way to save some time than to hire out the menial boat labor. Not to mention these guys always do a way better job than I ever would. The boat looks all sparkly—in a thirty-year-old boat sparkling way. Also had the guy scrape the bottom, and I tell you we were galloping through the water yesterday.

Pancakes and bacon? now, guys, I am the connoisseur of these breakfast delights as it was my express belief that I could and did live on 15 bucks between paydays (in my teens mind you) eating nothing but fried taters, pancakes and bacon & eggs. So, Ali, can you get that salty husband of yours to take a “breakfast” pic for me?
The crew:-)
I would, but I am so busy buttering, syruping (yeah, that’s a word now), and cutting into bite sizes that I couldn’t possibly set my utensils down for a camera. Lowe would probably bite my hand if I did.
Sounds like shark feeding time at the zoo?
Be glad it’s only cloudy. 26 degrees this morning when I woke up in Arizona. Trying to make it to 50 today.
50* in AZ?!?!? It’s warmer here on Nantucket!
I posted your first book on my squidoo lens I just published a couple of days ago. I hope it gets you a few more sales, I also mentioned your blog. Even though our boat is not a House Boat, my daughter inlaw said it would recieve more hits by naming my lens “House Boat Living”. So ck it out. My daughter inlaw is making really good money with squidoo so I thought I would give it a try. Let me know what you think.
Gorgeous photos!

I used to love my uncle’s set of Hot Wheels with the orange plastic track and could spend hours setting up new circuits. Ahh the memories. I was at a friend’s house over the weekend and the kids have Hot Wheels track as well but everything’s motorized instead of relying on gravity by clamping a track to a chair or table.
