The past few days, since we decided on selling the bus, have been filled with minor projects. Things like replacing the odometer cable, replacing two ceiling panels, rearranging the kids’ bedroom for adult use once again, and giving the walls and cabinets a fresh coat of stain. Mostly just a lot of upkeep that was due, but was difficult to accomplish when we were living in it. I can’t tell you how much easier it is to own and maintain RVs and boats when there isn’t an entire family going about their everyday life inside of it.
The kids have been keeping busy helping Grammy around the yard, and terrorizing the world’s most patient dog.
It’s always kind of sad taking down the personal bits.
The Travco hits the market in a couple days. We sold our last boat in ten days. Be interesting to see how quickly we can sell a 50 year-old RV.

I imagine it is hard to sell. Pat I have a question for you. I had looked into shipping and traveling south a couple years ago. I was thinking of storing my RV in country and returning the next year to travel more. But even slow traveling becomes difficult, if what I read is true. I read that you can only get a temporary import visa (Colombia) for 90 days. And can only extend it 90 days. Do you know anything about that?
No, I don’t know specifically, but I do know that in general it is a royal pain to leave a vehicle behind to come back to later. Most countries, as I understand it will allow it if you jump through all the hoops, but require you to leave it in some sort of customs impound yard. There is no way to sneak off either as they all write very specifically on your passport stamp the vehicle information as well, so that if you try to fly out they’ll want to know where your car is.
I think one of your Bum reader’s is going to snatch up that RV pretty quickly. Looking forward to reading about your next adventure.
I’m going to miss your bus adventures. What’s coming up next for you and your family?
Eh, nothin’ much. Work, school, maybe a 3-bed 3-bath in the St. Paul suburbs with a Whole Foods nearby. Probably a couple of dogs. Soccer teams.
We wrote about it in the last post.
Pat, tears rolling down my cheeks……
Yeah you should list it here first..
Boat selling usually takes months, if not years. I think you set a record on that one. This should be much easier.
What no mini van?!
Just bought one. Refer to last post. 😉
Add a trailer hitch and a small trailer with that old 356 on it and I am on the next plane out to you.
Pat, what is going to be your asking price?
Full post up over the weekend.
May I suggest putting the RV on Ebay with a starting price of $50k?
Little man Lowe, he looks like he’s grown 5 inches in the past few months ! Can’t wait to follow you back on the road in your new wheels.
When’s the Open House for us PDX’ers to see the RV first hand? Even a work in progress!
To celebrate all your hard work I mean! Long time reader / first time poster…
That’d be a tough one to get by Ali. We just busted our butts to get it ready to sell. It’s absolutely spotless. I don’t think we want anyone that doesn’t have a fistful of cash stepping foot in there. We’ll let you know though.
How about if you display it at the best Taco Truck(s) in PDX – of course that’s always up for debate, but at least you’d be showing off the Bus and enjoying pastor as you do!
I’m sorry to ask, but why are you selling the Travco? Are you moving somewhere and it won’t allow you to bring the Motorhome with you?
We’re moving to Nagano, Japan, where gold was recently discovered. They’re calling it the Japanese Gold Rush. We’re starting a business importing American made pick-axes and shovels.
You can read all about it one post back.
Nagano, Japan. That’s where we had the Winter Olympics games several years ago, isn’t it?
Correct. When one of the cross-country skiers got lost and went off track she fell into a creek. When she did, she found a gold nugget the size of a golf ball. The whole thing is crazy.
Geez, don’t these people read your blog at all! Enjoy your new family adventure.
Grammy’s house sure does look like a lot of fun – but, then again, I could say that about pretty much everywhere you guys go as a family.
How do people just stumble into your latest post and not realize what you have been up to the past several years? By the way, the Japan deal sounds like a real money maker!
I don’t know, but I hope you guys all realize I’m just joking around. I don’t really expect the whole world to know what we were doing last week and what we’re doing a year from now.
I hope you enjoy Japan, and that you keep us informed what goes on. 🙂
I’ve just sold everything I own for a oneway ticket to Nagano and a gold dredge!
Are you going to drive north to Alaska with the new mini van then put it on a ferry to Japan?
Get in touch with Sarah Palin. The ferry to Russia departs daily from her kitchen and from there, it’s an easy drive to Japan 🙂
It’s kinda funny that so many people don’t think to look at previous posts to answer their questions. I guess it’s so much easier to just ask. ):
I missed something, you are selling your boat, why????
Joe; They’ve got another boat???, I’m sure Pat swore never again after the delamination and continual motor issues on Bumfuzzzle1 …. what have they done with the Kombi van? Hopefully its in storage so they can do it all again once they pack the kids off to a military academy where they will get the rules, structure, more rules and discipline they need to conform to societies norm.
Don’t get me wrong, I will absolutely miss enjoying vicariously your nomadic adventures. However, with two boys 12 and 9, the last decade has been an adventure for us too, with sports, school, music lessons, etc. We have manage to get to San Diego, Florida, the Black Hills, all around Colorado. So enjoy the next stage of 4 walls and a foundation, and enjoy those travels! Please keep up the website!
Ooops! Sorry I didnt read the prior post! 🙂
Now that the land yacht is up for sale, maybe you should buy a catamaran and sale around the world?! You can thank me later for giving you such an original idea! Best of luck to you and the family in your new adventure!
Dang! I had $100,000 budgeted for it and now it’s already sold. Oh well, maybe next time.
