A few days ago Ouest about broke our hearts when she saw her nose for the first time after the impetigo outbreak. Her eyes teared up immediately and she said, “Me no like my nose.” With an average kid this wouldn’t be such a hard thing to hear, but after what we went through when she was a baby in order to keep her from ever having to look in a mirror and say those words, it hit us like a Tyson punch to the gut.
Ali and Ouest go up most nights to the marina to shower before bed. Tonight, after three days of antibiotics, her nose is healed completely. Pretty amazing actually. Anyway, she looked at herself in the mirror and smiled ear to ear. Then as they walked home she started singing, “My nose is all better, my nose is all better.” Just belting it out.
She sang this while strolling along naked, save for a sweatshirt. After her song she said to Ali, “It’s not brrr out tonight.”
“No, it’s pretty nice isn’t it?”
“But I’m not taking my sweatshirt off. I don’t want anyone to see my bebo.”
Bebo is the name one of her books gave a belly button, and it has stuck. I just like that she is walking down the dock with a naked butt, but just doesn’t want anyone checking out her belly button.

Have been enjoying your blog for awhile now. It was my novel for last summer & I could barely pull myself away! You two are an inspiration & I love reading about & seeing the joy you experience as a family. We have that same book. Our granddaughter is just a couple of months younger than Lowe & she loves to show everyone her bebo! Those books are so silly & sweet & the little ones love them. Thanks for sharing your life. You sure have brought this grammy a good many smiles 🙂
Thanks for the kind comment Loreen. We’re glad to have you with us.
We love the Belly Button book too! So glad to hear Ouest is on the mend and feeling good about her nose. Its a cute one!
The bebo made me laugh!
Do they use the word “poto” down your way? My parents are native Spanish speakers and growing up that was our slang for your bum… but it may be more of a Peruvian/ Chilean thing than Mexican? I don’t know? Glad she’s healed up.
