Back in Frederiksted for a couple days. This little town has grown on us. All it’s really missing is Mexican take-away. We can’t have everything, though.
We’re suddenly vastly outnumbered by the cats.
The kids are constantly inventing new water games. Somehow they always seem to include me. In this one I have the sea scooter in my hands and a rope around my ankle. We were not moving fast at all, but apparently this was quite fun.
We managed to score dental appointments for the kids. Not an easy task considering there are four dentists for the entire island and they are currently running five months out on the schedule. Sometimes sharing the fact that you live on a boat helps grease the kindness wheels. Since that was back in Christiansted, we moved back to the other side of the island again.
Kind of weird to find a sailboat sunk right in the middle of a crowded bay, and have it be virtually untouched. Usually when something sinks, especially in such shallow water, it’s picked pretty well clean.
Out swimming around one day we found this old fish trap with three Spotted Trunkfish stuck inside. They immediately swam up to us as we approached. I couldn’t figure out how to open the trap so it was back to the boat for some snips. This is starting to become a regular occurrence for us, it feels like.
We cut open a nice big opening on top, and after a few seconds one of them came swimming out. Then he turned back in for a second to get the other’s attention (that’s what it looked like, I swear).
Then the three of them swam off together. They’d obviously bonded in jail, and were off to fulfill their dream of living in Zihuatanejo, Mexico.
All her quiet time is in books.

Nice Shawshank reference! I enjoy your blog.
Ouest reminds me of myself at that age. Once I discovered books there was no going back. Still read 4-5 books a week. So good to see an active young person who enjoys reading. And no, being on their phones is not reading. Take care. Enjoy the weather. Below zero for a week or more here in the great north.
That’s great, Sharon. Good for you. I need to get back at it myself. Stay warm.

Darn. I thought you were writing about cats.
Ha Ha, now you sound like our kids. 🙂
Love the Shawshank shout out!
If you get back around there, might want to see if you can get takeout from Louie & Nacho’s.
They’re on Strand St in Frederiksted.
Yes, we gave them a try when we first arrived. Some hits and misses – we’ll have to give them another shot. We always grab a couple of pounds of pulled pork from Smoke STX. And tried Blues’ Backyard BBQ…yum.
