Another Adventurous Year Ahead

Our time in Sayulita is slowly drawing to a close. New year, new places, new adventures to be had. But not right away. We’ve still got a few familiar old haunts to visit. We’re all starting to feel that pull though. Actually, Lowe has been asking for weeks, “When are we going to a new campground?” Not because he dislikes this one, but I think just because he likes exploring new places.

Ouest loves to help David, the campground handyman, clean up. The only problem I have with it is that when she’s done she comes over and asks me for a couple of pesos. Ummm, shouldn’t you be asking David? Actually, Ouest would love to be given jobs every day, we just don’t really have anything to give her. I’ve assigned her a couple of new tasks to handle when we hit the road again, but around the campground? Not so much.

Ouest has had her original Molly since she turned two. Somehow she has survived. Lowe has Minnie, who recently got a hole chewed through her hand. Minnie has been miraculously repaired, cough cough, and looks as good as new again.

Dec31-1-2

Remember that for Christmas Ouest wanted a friend for Molly? Meet Blanco, the Mexican beach dog.

Dec31-2

Tell me this lady doesn’t look ready for a day of fun at the beach.

New Year’s Eve we knew we wouldn’t be staying up to midnight for fireworks. So we improvised and gave the kids something else that they love every bit as much—a bonfire with marshmallows. Tiny marshmallows on bailing wire.

You might notice that the young girls are sporting full make-up jobs. This apparently is what happens when a twelve-year-old girl shows up for a few days.

This is Brownie #2. We haven’t seen Brownie for four days now, and we’re all a little sad.

  1. So what are these plans you mentioned a week or so ago? Zeppelin trips to Antarctica? Joining a tribe in the Kalahari? Buying a house in the suburbs and sending the kids to school? (just kidding.)

    1. That’s funny. My kids and I talk of a months-long family blimp trip to Ushuaia when we win the lottery.

  2. Can’t wait to hear of your new adventures!

I know you have traveled/lived in Mexico for quite some time, but I’d like to ask – did you know Spanish before you headed that way? Do the kids speak it?

Wishing you and your lovely family a happy, safe and prosperous new year.

    1. We didn’t know any Spanish before we started traveling. The kids speak it as well as we do now, which isn’t fluent, but is still fairly good. Our kids still struggle to sing the ABCs in English, but belt it out in Spanish. They count equally as well in either. They know all the normal conversational stuff in Spanish. They’ve got a huge vocabulary in Spanish. But we haven’t got the fluency down yet.

  3. Brownie #2 had such a sad face. I think he gave up on love. Here today gone tomorrow. Thanks for the one night stand.

  4. Happy New Year, Bums! Thanks for all the great stories and pics. We made a cross country RV road trip recently, inspired by you!
