Wessel Islands

After a lively two night passage with virtually no sleep, we arrived in the Wessel Islands, anchored in the dark with no depth finder, in what we hoped was a safe spot, and went straight to bed. We woke in the morning to find we were well positioned, far from anything threatening.

The Wessels are about as remote as you can get. There is nothing, and nobody, out here.

One beautiful empty bay after another.

Rock formations under the high tide line looked like they had been stacked their manually millions of years ago.

The tides get serious up here. Even if we wanted to, we couldn’t have anchored much closer in.

As desolate as it looks, we were by no means the first cruisers to land here.

Snake tree.

We spent two nights here getting caught up on sleep for the next two or three night passage to Darwin.
