Ellen Griswold: I honestly don’t think you’re going to find the Grand Canyon on this road.
Clark Griswold: Jesus, it’s only the biggest damn hole in the world.
Aunt Edna: Clark, watch your language!
Clark Griswold: Make that the second biggest.
There’s really not a lot to say about the Grand Canyon that hasn’t been said a million times. It’s stunning. It’s humbling.
We would take a lot of family pictures on this day. It’s impossible not to.
While traipsing around, this nice family approached us to let us know we had inspired them to sell everything, jump in a van, and go see America with their kids. Always fun to meet Bum friends “out in the wild” like this.
Sort of relatedly, we got a FB comment the other day from the current owners of Bumfuzzle numero uno. Funny enough, our old catamaran is still floating, though is on the hard at the moment getting a fresh paint job. The new owners are getting her ready for a circumnavigation of their own, and while they were sanding it to prep for painting, they could just make out “Bumfu” left under some old paint. A while later they came across an old receipt (from when we replaced an engine in New Zealand) that had a bumfuzzle e-mail address written on it. He looked us up, and spent days reading the website. It’s funny how our tentacles reach. https://www.facebook.com/SailingDeadReckoning
Fortunately, we had left some winter clothes at Grammy’s house and grabbed them for the trip to the canyon. It was sunny and beautiful, but the wind that day was whipping as high as fifty m.p.h. and we were cold.
Teaching Lowe about aperture. He was stoked to discover how he could control bokeh (the background blur in photographs).
Sunset didn’t give us anything exciting, unfortunately, but we’re not complaining. We had a great day all over the south rim. Someday we’ll raft that river, if it still exists, and view it from the bottom up.

Lol, have you dropped “It’s all ball bearings nowadays” on Lowe yet? Still laughing…
I remember the days when you could never get the whole family to look at the camera at the same time. Looking good, y’all.
Great pictures of the GC. Have been there many times over the years and do not think I will ever get tired of seeing it. One thing we always wanted to do and never have is hike to bottom and back. At least you can now check it off your list of places. Hope you at least walked inside El Tovar while you were there. Mary Colter is an extremely interesting person related to architecture of the GC area. Ouest would probably enjoy researching her and the buildings she helped design at GC. Someday you will want to drive the Porsche to the North Rim. Beautiful winding roads through the forest of trees! You bring sunshine to my day every time you post. Thank you!
Oh no, we missed El Tovar. Will have to get back up there for sure. And in the Porsche for sure.
Stunning, stunning photos! Some fun ones, too!
Great pics of the canyon and family….Funny to read the part from Vacation…hilarious movie…..Stay safe….
It’s amazing, the shots you can get with a Brownie.
Continue having a wonderful lives!
Our favorite adventure in 16 years as full-time RVers was a week long raft trip on the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. Hope you get to do it sometime.
Holiday Roaaaaaaad! 🎵
Thanks for the plug y’all.
Yep, Miss Bumfuzzle-Dead Reckoning has been getting a facial and her nails did. One last bikini wax(overhaul the port engine) and she will be ready.

So incredible to find her again, and that she is going out for another spin. Simply amazing!
