Settling back in here on the beach in Mazatlan. So much of this coast has become like home to us over the years. We always seem to come back to the same haunts, eventually.
Those are frozen blueberries. I’ve really no idea how he manages to make this big a mess every single time. His face will remain stained the rest of the day until we can get him in the shower.
There are hummingbirds around, so we built them a feeder. So far they have completely ignored the feeder, but for some reason they seem to be eating something off of the back of the rear bumper every day. I can’t see anything there. It’s weird.
Hours upon hours have been spent playing with this.
Yep, we made it to our favorite market in Mexico. And yep, I think that cow was still mooing.
This mansion has been for sale as long as we’ve been coming to Mazatlan. For years Ali and I have half-joked about buying it and fixing it up. It’s been kind of our thing. When we walked around the corner today and saw that it had finally been sold we were genuinely saddened. I don’t think there was even a 1% chance that would have ever come to fruition, but it was a fun dream that we shared. The fact that it was gone was actually hard to accept.
I sent the kids over in front of this door just because I like these tiny doors. The door isn’t actually tiny—the ground around it has just been built up so many times that it has disappeared below street level. The kids walked over and peeked inside. One second later a huge dog threw himself up against the door. He didn’t bark, but he sent our kids screaming. Ouest cried for five minutes, and I felt like a jerk. I’ve been in Mexico long enough to know that there was a 9/10 chance there’d be a dog in there.
Lowe is our lone wolf. He can play off by himself for hours in his own imaginary world. Ouest was never really like that.
This is what Mazatlan is all about.

Good times!

I love the light picture.
I do too. Ali spotted that one while we were walking around town.
Quality time beautifully captured.
Mazatlan looks like a great place! Don’t feel too bad about the dog and the door … when our daughter was about Ouest’s age, we took her to Universal Studios and on a ride we’d never been on before that we assured her was a slow boat ride that wasn’t scary and didn’t have drops. All was fine until the very end .. when a dragon came from above, just before a big drop. Our daughter was crying, and so pissed at us for lying to her. We had no idea and felt terrible. Now that she’s older we can laugh about it!
Yep, that beef looks awful fresh! =)
Have you been posting smaller pictures or is it just my machine? They are almost hard to see so I imagine it’s on my end.
They definitely shouldn’t be hard to see. The “small” picture is about 1000 pixels wide, and if you click to enlarge it should be 1600 pixels.
Sometimes “some” of the photos come in small for me too. It doesn’t matter what device I use. I wonder if it is during upload? But, as Pat mentioned once I click on it it .
Gorgeous images! Love the light fixture, the Dodge truck, and the last photo with the kids. They look plenty large on my little screen. 🙂
My oldest daughter had the same pink, patchwork skirt Ouest has (Hanna Andersson, I think). It’s been long gone in our household, as she is now 17, but travelled with us to lots of fun places. It’s always a trip to see the same skirt show up in your pictures. 🙂
Love that old mansion in Centro, it has quite a story behind it. So glad it sold, but I hope who ever bought it will return it to it’s former glory and will not over modernize it!
As a certified grandfather (and great grandfather!) I can attest that Ouest’s art skills are very advanced. Her clown drawings are very good!
When are you guys coming to Australia again.?. Land Down Under. Americas closest military ally. Bring your beautiful kids here, come to South and West Australia too this time, not NSW/Sydney. I bet they’d love it.
Trey.
Which one of you 4 artists took the “street lamp shadow” pix? They have a very artistic eye.
Thanks, Ralph. I mentioned it above, but Ali pointed that one out to me. I took the picture, but it was her eye.
